I am not able to do my work right now for obvious reasons. A lot of my identity is wrapped up in being a massage therapist. It's something that happened naturally after doing this work for 13 years. As I look at my empty massage table and the neatly folded sheets, I feel sad, angry and frustrated.
The world is hurting right now and I and so many other therapist's are not allowed to do what we do best, help, heal, and take some of the burden off your shoulders right now.
I miss my clients faces the ones that come weekly, the ones that come monthly, the ones that I've just met, all of you. I'm wondering when I will see you again. I'm thinking about you and what you are feeling, what the stress of all this is doing to your body. I know because I'm feeling it too. I relieve a lot of my stress by helping you. Sounds strange yes? but it's part of why I love this job.
This job is difficult but this job is so rewarding. When you come out of the room looking like a different person. The softness in your relaxed face, your shoulders back down where they are supposed to be, the sighs I hear when the stress and tension is released from your body and mind. The hugs I get from your grateful arms and the smiles and laughs. The testimonies of how much better you are feeling. I want you to live your best life, feeling your best, functioning at your best. That's my job, that's my life's work.
Because I am self-employed I am not getting any help from the government hopefully this will change soon. There are so many people in the same place I am, if you can please support the small local businesses it will help all of us. I hope to see you all soon when and if I am able to return to the job I love and the clients I miss.
