Dr. Ian Lipkin is internationally recognized in the use of molecular methods for pathogen discovery with over 30 years of experience in diagnostics, microbial discovery and outbreak response. In addition to running the Center for Infection and Immunity at the Columbia School of Public Health, he also leads the Center for Solutions for ME/CFS, one of the 3 NIH-funded Collaborative Research Centers. On a recent panel, Dr. Lipkin referenced emerging ME/CFS biomarkers uncovered by the Collaborative Research Centers, which may be applicable to Long Covid. In fact, some of his preliminary analyses show biological commonalities between the two conditions. In the past Dr. Lipkin has been known for his role in a $2.3M study (published in 2012) that showed no evidence supporting the controversial theory that ME/CFS is caused by the XMRV retrovirus. More recently Dr. Lipkin co-authored a paper with Dr. Anthony Komaroff “Insights from ME/CFS May Help Unravel the Pathogenesis of Post-acute COVID Syndrome”. #MECFS #pwME #LongCOVID
