"...It is more blessed to give than to receive." Acts 20:35
Humble haircuts by humble hands. Half of earnings are lovingly donated to those in need.
The Masked Barber is a one-man barber service created as a result of a desire to help others. Acts 20:35
This Bible verse is the mission statement for The Masked Barber. The goal is to provide a loving service not only to clients but also to those in the community who are really in need. Half of the earnings from this endeavor will go to those in need. More specifically, the money is used to purc
hase items such as gift cards, clothes, food, water, hygienic supplies, and blankets to be given to the homeless in little packages. The Man Behind the Mask:
Sehyun Kim is a 21-year old student at UCI, currently on a medical leave of absence after being diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia in late December of 2013. Aplastic Anemia is a non-contagious disease in which the bone marrow, and the blood stem cells that reside there, are damaged. This causes a deficiency of all three blood cell types: red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Aplastic refers to the inability of the stem cells to generate the mature blood cells. Don't hesitate to ask me more about my personal experience with this disease. I'm happy to share. The Mask:
The mask is required to prevent infection from airborne bacteria/viruses due to a weakened immune system. For this reason, those that are affected with contagious illnesses are strongly advised not to come until after being completely healthy for at least a few days. It would be greatly appreciated. Even more so than the physical importance of the mask are the implications of what the mask represents. Beyond my sickness, it has become in some way a part of my identity, while also hiding some of it. It also represents all those who don't have an identity, those who are perceived as invisible even without a mask. Each and every one of us has a God-given identity. Each and every person on this earth is important. The mask is a means of bringing humility to the self and building up others through love.
