The disruption of quarantine allowed many women the opportunity to realize new possibilities for their hair and the time to research who in their area seemed like a good fit their new vision. While I'm operating at only 35% my usual capacity, I already had innovative ways to accommodate as many folks as possible.

If you head over to asaltstyle.com and view the Services & Pricing menu, you might find one item on there where I throw a little shade in the description. While I embrace and love formulating Color Retouches, I also acknowledge that completely covering gray (aka base color) comes with some pretty big compromises.

Permanent color (use the term loosely because they all fade) is paired with something called developer. Developers come in varying degrees of strength but the level needed in order to completely cover gray causes your natural color to lift a shade or two. How dark your hair is to begin with determines which pigment that lift leaves your natural color at. Lighter hair without bleach!? Sounds great, right? Buckle up.

Here are the levels of lift with base color:
🟥 red
🟧 orange
🟨 yellow

Unless you’re a ginger, that's probably not sounding so great about now. “But Brandon, I’ve been doing base color for years and it’s never one of those colors!” Yeah, I agree, you can ABSOLUTELY leave the salon with 100% gray coverage AND none of those unwanted warm tones.

🧐 “So then what's the problem?”

I mentioned at the beginning of this post that even permanent color fades. Meaning when that cool, ashy tone I applied to neutralize the warmth starts to wash away...Guess what's left babe?

I've noticed over the last few months that the culmination of changes in our routines, requirements and environments have come at an unexpected cost for many of you.

We are currently working hand-in-hand to design a simple, streamlined and easy-to-use system with an expected launch date no later than October 9th.
