Adding acetone to monomer is stupid, you start messing with that balance. Some nail tech and even brands tell you to do it to get your acrylic to set faster.

Here’s the science:

Acetone ev***rates extremely fast. When mixed with monomer, it leaves the dappen dish quickly, forcing the monomer components to thicken and concentrate unnaturally.

The monomer balance is disrupted, now you’ve got a higher concentration of raw EMA and other methacrylates sitting on the nail or exposed in the air.

Adding acetone to monomer? You’re causing exposure to nail products you can’t even see. When you add acetone to monomer, it ev***rates very quickly and forces the balance of the liquid to change. What’s left behind is a higher concentration of raw methacrylate monomers that don’t cure properly and don’t ev***rate quickly. Those monomers can sit on the skin longer, giving them more time to be absorbed, and that’s the main way people develop allergies. They also form a heavier v***r that lingers in the air instead of rising and dispersing like acetone does. Because of that, the cloud of fumes stays right at the work level where you and your client are both breathing it in.

People are out here treating professional nail chemicals like Elmer’s glue and glitter from the craft aisle. Newsflash: this isn’t a craft project. If you want arts and crafts, go buy hot glue. If you want to be a professional, learn the science.
