Bias is a well known issue within the field of Statistics. One of the ways this occurs is when the questions within the questionnaires are not precise due to misclassification. This occurs when questions are not vetted prior to publishing to remove any potential bias. These biased questions may include misclassified components which lead to an overestimated association as the NIH did in including non -chemical "Pressing Tools", with Smoothing treatments and Relaxers. The NIH then published a press release with the Headline "Chemical" Straightners associated with Uterine cancer. This is demonstrably different from what the headline of the study is in the published Oxford Study. Which states "Hair Straighters Only to then claim chemical straightners are now associated with a 4% risk by age 70 of having uterine cancer. (This was NOT and "underestimation" as they contend) because they included a extra component that is NOT a chemical straightner. It's a industry practice among professional epidemiology studies to screen these questions prior to releasing them in order to avoid these instances. Yet this study not only exposes its own error. The NIH literally admits within the very study it produced to the public that this bias is a potential issue because of the way they constructed the question. Yet they knowingly left the question as is was. What is most concerning is that this is a government entity whose mission is to inform the public about potential health issues. In order for the public to make more informed decisions about their health choices. Instead, due the intellectually dishonest way they decimated this misinformation, it has not only cause mass public hysteria, its led to a rash of lawsuits citing this very biased study. So much so that they have been granted a class action lawsuit due the overwhelming number cases that has overrun several courts around the country based on this biased study.
