✂️ CLEAN UP: Diseased plants & dropped fruit (keep pests away!).
🌻 LEAVE: Coneflower seed heads & native stems for birds & native bees!
🌱 PLANT NOW: Spinach, radishes, arugula, garlic, spring bulbs, & native perennials.
🍂 PROTECT: Add 2" of compost & mulch beds to nourish clay soil through winter.

Lemon verbena (Aloysia citrodora) is one of my favorite plants 🪴 to recommend.

Here's why:
* Intense lemon fragrance and flavor: Stronger, sweeter, and less sour than lemon balm or lemongrass. Just brushing the leaves perfumes the air.
* Culinary versatility: Great in teas, desserts, sorbets, syrups, fish and poultry dishes, and infused sugars. It holds its flavor well when cooked, unlike many herbs.
* Excellent tea plant: Fresh or dried leaves make a soothing, caffeine-free tea traditionally used to aid digestion and relaxation.
* Dries beautifully: It keeps its aroma and color better than most herbs, so one plant supplies you through winter.
* Pollinator-friendly: Small, airy white-lavender flower spikes in late summer attract bees and butterflies.
* Low-maintenance: Loves full sun, tolerates poor soil and dry spells once established, and is rarely bothered by pests or deer.
* Great in containers: Easy to keep near a patio or kitchen door, and easy to bring indoors in cold climates.
* Fast growth: Can reach 3-6 feet in a season, and regular harvesting encourages bushier growth.
* Home and craft uses: Wonderful in potpourri, sachets, bath soaks, and homemade cleaning or body products.
