Let’s talk steam! 🎙️🗣️
I don’t always use steam on every single client as I have their best interests when each of them walk into my treatment room. Listed below are a few skin types I would not use steam on and also why!
Sensitive skin/Rosacea clients - Heat exposure can cause more inflammation and redness and because of the increased circulation from the steam it could possibly bring out more noticeable blood vessels/dilated capillaries. If because of somebody’s rosacea they have papules/pustules, those can also worsen throughout the facial.
Compromised skin barrier (I see quite often) - if somebody’s skin barrier is already imbalanced/stripped - the products you follow up with after steam, as well as the treatments I use, will cause the skin to be more reactive PLUS it increases transepidermal water loss.
Dehydrated skin - steam causes water to evaporate from our skin, so if somebody is already dehydrated (even though the steam feels relaxing and nice) it can sensitize the skin since dehydration lacks water, not oil.

Hi guys! I have some exciting news! As of August 20th of this year, I am branching on an esthetics journey of my own and could not be more excited. I have been an esthetician since 2018, which is when I found a passion for skin and corrective skincare!
