Did you know menopause can actually change your hair texture? 🤯

This is one of my favorite conversations to have behind the chair because so many women think they’re imagining it… but you’re not!

As estrogen begins to decline during perimenopause and menopause, your hair follicles can change too. That means hair that has been straight your entire life may suddenly become wavy or curly. Curly hair can loosen, fine hair can become coarser, and many women notice more frizz, dryness, and a completely different texture than they’ve ever had before.

Here are a few changes you might notice:

✨ Hair becoming wavy or curly.
✨ Increased frizz and dryness.
✨ Hair feeling finer or coarser.
✨ Changes in volume.
✨ More shedding or thinning, especially around the crown and temples.

Your hair is responding to what’s happening inside your body, so your hair routine may need to change too.

As your hairstylist, I always recommend:

🤎 Prioritizing moisture.
🤎 Using products that support your new texture instead of fighting it.
🤎 Turning down the heat on your styling tools.
🤎 Keeping up with regular trims to prevent breakage.

Hair changes during menopause are incredibly common, but they don’t mean your hair can’t still be healthy and beautiful. Sometimes all it takes is understanding why it’s happening and adjusting your routine to work with your hair instead of against it.

🔥 Let’s talk about HOT water… because this might be the biggest reason your hair feels dry, dull, frizzy, or just “off.”

As your hairstylist, one of my favorite things is educating my clients so they can have their BEST hair every single day—not just when they leave my chair. 💕

💁🏻‍♀️ It all starts with the wash!

🚿 Water that’s too hot can:
• Strip away your hair’s natural oils, leaving it dry and brittle.
• Cause your color to fade much faster.
• Increase frizz by roughing up the cuticle.
• Make your ends feel crunchy and more prone to breakage.

Your scalp doesn’t love it either:
• It can dry out your scalp, leading to tightness, itching, and flaking.
• Your scalp may overproduce oil to make up for all the moisture it lost, leaving you feeling greasy sooner.
• It can also increase irritation if you already struggle with sensitivity, eczema, psoriasis, or dandruff.

The sweet spot? Warm water to cleanse your hair and scalp, then finish with a cool rinse to help smooth the cuticle, lock in moisture, and boost shine. ✨

Heat isn’t the enemy—it just needs to be used the right way. A few small changes at home can completely transform how your hair looks and feels between appointments!
