Howard Wayne Tapp Sr.

Howard Wayne Tapp Sr, affectionately known as “Babe Bruh”, was born on December 13, 1948 in Columbia, MO, to the proud parents Savannah Tapp Jr, and Mary Ernestine Williams-Tapp. He would call Columbia home for the entirety of his life. Howard passed away on February 20, 2024 at Caring Hearts and Hands Hospice of Columbia, MO.
Howard graduated from David H. Hickman High School, where he actively participated in sports. He was especially fond of football. He was a die hard fan of the Missouri Tigers, and the Kansas City Chiefs. He was an avid collector of Mizzou and Chiefs memorabilia, and also collected model cars. He loved tennis and basketball as well. In his younger days, he frequented Brewer Field House to play basketball.
He worked for Texaco Oil for many years, as well as for the City of Columbia. He worked for First Student Bus Company, transporting students for Columbia Public Schools, until his health no longer allowed him to work.
Being physically fit was very important to Howard. He always encouraged others, especially his family, to go running or walking with him. He also loved gathering with family and friends and never missed a beat when given the opportunity to dance with them.
Howard is survived by two sons; Howard Tapp Jr of Independence, MO, and Garrett Tapp of Columbia, MO. Five sisters; Cheryl Bell (Thomas), Alma Tapp, Freda Tapp, Teresa Lankford and Jackie Cody (Jonas). Two brothers; Marvin Tapp and Maurice Tapp, all of Columbia, MO. He was preceded in death by both parents, two sisters; Wynna Faye Elbert and Melva VanBuren, as well as one brother; Gary Tapp. Howard will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His spirit, warmth, and a genuine love for life, will continue to live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all the lives he touched.
The family of Howard Tapp Sr. would like to extend their sincerest appreciation for the expressions of sympathy during our recent loss. Thank you for the many ways in which you helped us during our time of need.

*A dinner to honor Howard’s life will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at 5:00 pm. at the Event Center, 101 E. Forest Ave, Columbia, MO 65203.
