This is why you need to do your research on where you get your massage!!!!!
There is a popular parlor like this in Johnson City that people are promoting and I cannot stay silent anymore!!!!
I have done my research and these places (yes right here in Johnson City) DO NOT even have an establishment license! Which means they were NOT inspected by the health department!
The individual "body workers" also do NOT have a license!
Not all bodywork is created equal. Here’s why licensing (and your safety) matters.
When you book a session with a Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT), you aren’t just paying for relaxation—you are placing your physical health, muscles, and nervous system in educated hands.
We often get asked why it’s worth choosing a licensed studio over low-cost foot spas or unregulated bodywork parlors. The difference comes down to safety, education, and legal standards.
LMTs spend hundreds of hours studying how muscles, nerves, and joints work together. Without this knowledge, improper pressure or incorrect techniques can cause nerve compression, severe bruising, muscle tears, or worsen existing joint problems.
Trained therapists know when not to massage. Untrained individuals can dislodge a blood clot (leading to a life-threatening pulmonary embolism), aggravate acute inflammation, or severely harm clients with high blood pressure, severe osteoporosis, or early pregnancy.
State Board Licensing & Clean Background Checks: To practice legally in Tennessee, LMTs must pass national board exams, pass background checks, and hold an active license from the Tennessee Massage Licensure Board.
LMTs are legally required to complete at least 24 hours of continuing education every two years to stay sharp on clinical safety, new therapeutic techniques, and ethics.
Establishments operating outside state massage licensure operate under basic commercial permits, meaning their attendants are not required to go to massage school, hold state board licenses, or understand basic health risks.
While lower prices can be tempting, those savings often come at the expense of proper safety standards and clinical knowledge.
Your body works hard for you. Don't risk injury with untrained hands—invest in care grounded in education, ethics, and legal practice. 💙
You don't have to come see us (though we would love to have you) but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE...🙏🙏🙏 for your own health and safety and to not accidentally support human trafficking please make sure the establishment you choose is operating under the required licensure
