From sobriety to skin care, business owner finds purpose after recovery
“I went from, you know, basically the gutter: homeless, jobless, unemployable; to where I am today, and I don’t ever want to lose the gratitude I have for that,” said Penny McElroy, the owner of Flying Pig Skin Care in Johnson City, Tennessee. I had forgotten about this and it made me cry. I still miss my Augustus something awful. Not that Opie isn’t wonderful, he is. But Gus was my heart dog.
Anyway, I still make this soap! And hot spot salve! And paw protection salve. I can bring it to the farmers market this Saturday. Ragamuffin Soap. Cleaning Doggos since 2018.
“Henlo, frens. Are you perfectly stinky? Does your belly itch? Is your furs doin a gross? Well, whatever you do, don’t let your momma do a cleanse on you with her Ragamuffin Dog Shampoo Bar! You’ll be un-stinky, un-itchy, and your lovely gross furs will be softs and shiny instead!”
Made with neem, oatmeal, and goatsmilk. Augustus says (don’t) get one today! Paid for by the Stinky Doggos United Party. I’m Augustus McCrae, and I approved this message.
250° and counter top saponification because of it. Regular soap makers: “Let’s add cold water to cold oil. Flying Pig Skincare: “HEAT IT! BEAT IT. POUR IT!” No fear.
I will be directing traffic and managing this event on Saturday, entirely too busy to sell soap. Please come and experience our Mega Market anyway. If you can catch me while I’m running around losing my mind, I’ll be happy to get a hug and a pat on the back.
I won’t be setting up as Flying Pig this Saturday because I’ll be managing this event. But I’ll be the one running around pulling my hair out-come find me and give me a hug!

Thank you for hosting an amazing and informative evening. It’s a blessing to be part of this community. ❤️
I’ve been taking Sundays off as my Sabbath, but you lovely humans cleaned me out of product yesterday. (NOT a complaint!) It’s buttery thick and smooth body butter day!

Our washing machine completely stopped working last week and we needed help fast. Not quite sure what was wrong, Amanda called Lane with Good Samaritan Repair and they messaged back and forth all evening. He really took the time to try to diagnose before even heading over. It ended up being a broken washer belt, so it wasn’t a large $$ repair, but Lane took as much time with communicating as if we were a big job. He answered messages, arrived when he said he would, texted us back, ordered a new belt, and installed it as soon as it came in. All for a very reasonable price.
He assembles gazebos, does landscaping, has a stump grinder, fixes appliances, builds stuff like sheds, and basically is an all around handy-man for everything except electrical work. The most important thing? He’s trustworthy. In this day and age, that’s the thing we admire most. If you need something done, something fixed, or something assembled, give him a call at (276) 469-5630. You can tell him the Golden Girls sent you!
Good Samaritan Repair From Landscaping and stump grinding, to in-home repairs and installations! We’ve got you covered!

Okay, I’m really tired now. I think I’ll go home. (Said in Forest Gumps voice on his cross-county run)
