Don isn’t a new client.

He’s been in my chair before, and it’s always good when he comes through.

But it had been a while.

He’s been working a lot and just hadn’t had much time to slow down and do something for himself.

This time he came in for the Presidential Service.

Before we started, he showed me a picture of the beard style he was trying to get close to.

That gave us something clear to work from.

We talked through everything.

How much length he wanted to keep.

How wide and natural he wanted the beard.

What needed to be cleaned up.

Then we went to work.

By the end, I believe we brought that look to life.

But this service had more meaning behind it.

Don recently lost two loved ones, and I want to send my prayers and respect to him and his whole family.

This transformation was bigger than a haircut.

This young man had recently moved from Bolingbrook to Joliet and needed to find a new barber.

He told me he found my work on Instagram and had already decided he wanted one of my transformation videos before he ever walked through the door.

I love hearing that.

But what means even more to me is hearing that the experience in person exceeded what he expected.

He came in with short locs and wanted a fresh start.

We cut the locs off.

Created a clean high top fade with natural curls.

Trimmed and shaped his beard while keeping it full and natural.

The conversation was genuine.

The laughs were real.

I Almost Deleted This Whole Video… But Quitting Would’ve Cost Me the Lesson

I’m going to be real.

This video did not go the way I planned.

Jerod is a new client going into his freshman year of high school. He came from Chicago after his grandmother received a referral, saw my work on TikTok, and decided to book the experience.

He plays football and is looking to step into high school as a running back.

He came in with locs on the top of his head and wanted the rest cut even with a clean mid taper on the sides and back. He also wanted the haircut enhanced for a sharper finish.

This was his first haircut video.

I wanted it to be perfect.

Before the service, I set up one phone behind us to go live on TikTok. I wanted to show barbers how I shoot content, how I set up my cameras, and how I create consultation videos.

Then I set up my main phone in front of us to capture the full conversation.

But I forgot to press record.

The whole consultation was gone.

The only footage I had was the live video from behind us, shot from the front camera, from the wrong angle, with a completely different look from my normal videos.

I was angry.

I almost threw the whole video away because it didn’t match the style I normally use.

But then I had to check myself.

Was I going to let one mistake stop me from finishing something good?

Was I going to let frustration erase Jerod’s first video experience?

Was I going to throw away content that could help another barber, encourage another person, or bring another family into my chair?

No.

I had to pivot.

I used the footage I had.

I pulled audio from the live.

I tried tools inside CapCut that I don’t normally use.

I changed the flow.

I pieced it together.

And by the end, I loved how it turned out.

That was the lesson.

Sometimes the plan breaks, but the purpose is still there.

Barbers and stylists, stop throwing away good work because it doesn’t look perfect.

Use what you have.

Adjust.

Create.

Finish.

You may know more than you think you know. Pressure has a way of pulling knowledge and creativity out of you that you didn’t even realize was there.

I also learned something during the service.

Jerod is soft-spoken, but when we talked about football, school, and the things he cares about, he started opening up.

You don’t have to force people to talk.

Find their interest.

Listen.

Ask simple questions.

That is how you build trust.

She Found Me On Google… Then Trusted Me With THIS Transformation

She told me something before we really got going:

She found me on Google.

By the time I finally turned her toward that mirror, we had created something specifically for HER.

Undercut.
