This has gotta be one of the easiest swaps that can save a lot of plastic from landfill! It’s estimated that 60 million plastic water bottles are thrown away in the USA - in ONE DAY! As well as being terrible for the environment, plastic bottled water can also be terrible for our health! You may be exposed to harmful toxins from the plastic (particularly common if the plastic water bottle is old or if it has been sitting in the sun or heat) BPA is the most common toxin and has been linked to a number of major health concerns. This plastic was known as ‘Bakelite’. It was created as a substitute for Shellac (a natural electrical insulator) to meet the growing needs of the Electrifying USA. This product was then marketed as ‘the material of a thousand uses’ due to its ability to be shaped and moulded into almost anything! During World War 2 plastic production in the United States increased by 300% 😮
