I did not wake up yesterday expecting to foster a dog. But, well, here we are.

This good boy is getting neutered on Wednesday when his stray-hold ends. He’ll be with us until he finds a home. Are you looking for a dog?! I think it’s safe to assume he hasn’t had the easiest go at life, and I don’t think anyone is looking for him. He’s a hungry guy with some scratches and missing fur, but he’s the sweetest soul. They think he’s about 4.5 years old.

I know this isn’t bodywork or massage related. However, amidst all the activity of getting this guy settled, I was thinking about how my first experience in care work was in animal care.

I’ve worked at doggy daycares and spent time as a vet receptionist. At one point, I was considering becoming a vet tech, but obviously took a different path.

Anyway, if you’re looking for a dog, consider this guy when he’s available. We’ve been calling him Philbert, like a hazelnut. Please share!

A round of applause for Kayla Farrell, please. A hand painted sign only feels right, and now things feel even more like home.

And they both need their own ways of being cared for

Sometimes the muscles needs tending to after working hard, sleeping funky or direct injury

Sometimes they’re holding on because your nervous system has learned that staying “on” feels safer than letting go

Our muscles can carry effort, habit, stress, and protection. Being curious and understanding the difference changes how to approach caring for the body

Working with bodies often teaches me as much it teaches my clients.

Getting massaged can feel incredibly vulnerable. There can be a lot of mystery for a first timer. It’s week, so I wanted to lay out what to expect, at least when you come through my doors.

First, start by knowing that you don’t need to earn rest, and you don’t have to fit a certain image of someone who gets massages.

No matter if you’re coming for pain relief, stress, nervous system support, or simply because you’re curious, you belong on the table.
