🌿 Monday Musings

We’ve been doing a little dreaming about the future of Purple Lotus KC and today, we want YOU to dream with us. 💜

If you could add ONE experience to the Purple Lotus KC menu, what would it be?

We are not giving you choices on purpose because we don’t want to influence your answer!

And let’s put one little disclaimer out there before someone asks for Botox/fillers. We’re keeping our wish list within the services that can be provided within our professional scope of practice—so no injectables, lasers, or other medical services.

Other than that…

Dream a little with me.

👇 If you could add ONE new service, treatment, enhancement, or experience at Purple Lotus KC, what would you love to see?

Current clients, past clients, future clients, and those of you who simply follow along—I want to hear from all of you.

Who knows? You might just inspire something that eventually finds its way onto our menu. 🪷💜

🌿 Self-Care Saturday 🌿

Good morning, friends! 💕 Shae here—As I sit here enjoying my morning coffee, apparently my brain has decided to get a little philosophical and I wanted to share …

So what exactly is the difference between nostalgia and homesickness?

They’re different…but somehow beautifully intertwined.

Nostalgia is missing a memory.

Homesickness is missing a feeling.

Nostalgia takes us back to a moment in time, while homesickness longs for everything that made that moment feel like home—the comfort, the emotions, the familiar smells and sounds, the people, and that unmistakable sense of belonging.

And then I had this thought…

While we’re busy longing for moments from our past, we’re living the moments our future selves will one day miss. 💜

Maybe that’s a form of self-care we don’t talk about enough:

Being present enough to actually experience our lives while we’re living them.

And maybe on International Relaxation Day, that’s worth remembering.

Relaxation doesn’t always have to mean doing nothing. Sometimes it’s simply slowing down enough to notice the life happening around us.

Soak in the laughter.

Notice the warmth of the sun.

Breathe in your favorite familiar smell.

Listen to the voices of the people you love.

Put the phone down for a minute.

Stay a little longer.

Because someday, something completely ordinary about today may become the memory you’d give anything to experience one more time.

So today…relax, be present, soak it in, and be here for it. 💕

Carpe Diem.

🧘‍♀️ Wellness Wednesday 🧘‍♀️

Growing up in Unity, there was a phrase I heard often:

“Thoughts held in mind produce after their kind.”

It’s something that has stayed with me throughout my life.

To me, it means that what we repeatedly focus on has power.

If our inner dialogue is constantly…

I’m exhausted.
Nothing ever works out for me.
I can’t do this.
I’m broke.
Everything is going wrong.

…those thoughts can begin to shape the lens through which we experience our lives.

That doesn’t mean positive thinking magically makes difficult circumstances disappear. Life happens. Illness happens. Loss, stress, disappointment, and things completely outside our control happen.

But we do have some influence over the conversation happening inside our own minds.

Instead of “I can’t handle this,” maybe it’s “I’ll take this one step at a time.”

Instead of “Everything is going wrong,” maybe we pause long enough to notice one thing that’s going right.

Instead of constantly telling ourselves we’re failing, maybe we acknowledge how much we’re actually carrying and give ourselves grace.

Our thoughts influence our emotions, our stress, the things we notice, and often the choices we make next.

And no, I’m certainly not positive every moment of every day. 😂

But I do believe there’s tremendous power in becoming aware of what we’re repeatedly telling ourselves.

🌿 So here’s your Wellness Wednesday check-in:

What thought have you been carrying lately?

And is it helping you…or is it one you’re ready to replace?

Maybe today, find one good thing and give it a little more of your attention. 💜

📚 Educational Tuesday | Acne Series

True or False?

“I have acne because my skin is dirty.”

❌ FALSE… but let’s talk about it.

Not properly cleansing your skin absolutely can contribute to breakouts. Makeup, sweat, excess oil, environmental debris, and products left on the skin can contribute to clogged pores and irritation—especially if you’re regularly going to bed without cleansing after a long day, a workout, or if you wear makeup.

But here’s the important part:

💜 Having acne does NOT mean you have poor hygiene or “dirty” skin.

Acne is much more complex than simply how often you wash your face…

❎Hormones
❎Genetics
❎Excess oil production
❎Clogged follicles
❎Inflammation
❎Certain products or medications
❎Stress
Are just a few underlying reasons for acne but there are other individual factors that can all play a role.

BUT did you know these reasons can make it worse…..

❌Excessively cleansing the skin
❌Aggressive and over scrubbing/exfoliating
❌Using harsh products to try and “dry out” the acne

Doing these things can irritate the skin and compromise your skin barrier which can create more acne breakouts.

So the answer isn’t:

❌ More exfoliating or use more aggressive products.

It’s:

🪷 Understanding your skin and treating what’s actually contributing to the breakouts.

Healthy skin isn’t about fighting your face.

It’s about understanding what’s happening, supporting your skin barrier, choosing appropriate products and treatments, and creating a routine you can actually be consistent with.

And sometimes, that means doing less, not more.

Most importantly, your acne isn’t something to be ashamed of, and it doesn’t automatically mean you’re doing something “wrong.”

Your skin is giving us information. Our job is to learn how to listen to it and help you understand what it needs. 💜

😊MONDAY MUSINGS😊

My mind is a little distracted today… but for the absolute sweetest reason.

Our family is waiting for a very special little someone to make his arrival. Our second grandson is making his way into the world sometime hopefully in the next 24 hours. And you know what? Suddenly, everything else on my to-do list feels less important.

Isn’t it funny how life does that?

We can get so caught up in schedules, responsibilities, appointments, deadlines, and all the things we think have to get done.

And then something happens that reminds us what really matters.

Today, I’m reminded that sometimes being present doesn’t look like sitting quietly with a cup of coffee or intentionally carving out time for ourselves.

Sometimes being present simply means allowing our hearts and minds to be exactly where they want to be.

And today, mine are with my growing little family. And honestly I’m waiting rather impatiently to meet this precious new little person, our second grandson.

So if I’m a little distracted today and tomorrow, I’m giving myself permission to be. Everything else can wait.

Because there are some moments in life that deserve our full attention. 💜

What’s something happening in your life right now that deserves a little more of your attention and a little less competition from your to-do list?

🪷 Behind the Lotus Thursdays 🪷

Welp, today didn’t go as planned.

I had to reschedule all my appointments because I was hit with one of those debilitating migraines that simply wouldn’t let up. 😣

As a small business owner, there isn’t a “call-in sick” option.

There’s no paid sick leave.

No one stepping in to do my job.

No paycheck waiting at the end of the day if I can’t work.

When I have to cancel appointments, it’s not just disappointing, it means lost income, rescheduling clients, rearranging schedules, and hoping everyone understands.

And thankfully, because I have the most amazing clients, they almost always do.

For that, I am so incredibly grateful.

Moments like today remind me that even those of us who spend our days caring for others have to remember to care for ourselves, too.

Sometimes that means listening to our bodies, even when every part of us wants to push through.

So today, I rested 😴

Not because I wanted to but because I needed to.

And I’ll be honest with you, sitting still and resting, even when I’m sick, is like torture for me….. just ask my husband!

And hopefully tomorrow, I’ll be back doing what I love.

Today was a reminder that wellness isn’t just something we encourage for our clients. It’s something we have to extend to ourselves, too.

To every client who showed me grace and understanding today…Thank you 🙏

Your kindness and understanding means more than you realize. 💜

📚 Educational Tuesday 📝

Here’s something that might surprise a lot of people…

Not every profession or state in the beauty and wellness industry is required to complete continuing education to renew and keep a license 😲

While some of my licenses do require ongoing continuing education credits to be reported, others do not which just blows my mind 🤯

💜BUT one thing you as a client can count on that has always been a constant at PLKC, I intentionally invest in our education because we believe our clients deserve the very best care possible.

For us, continuing education has never been about checking a box or meeting a requirement. It’s always been and will continue to be, about providing the safest, most effective, and most up-to-date care possible.

🙇‍♀️📚Whether we’re studying the latest research in skincare…

Learning advanced massage techniques…

Deepening our understanding of anatomy, physiology, pain science, and how the body naturally heals…

Or exploring new treatment modalities that help our clients relax, recover, move more comfortably, and simply feel their best…

We’re always learning about the things we are passionate about.

The human body hasn’t changed but our understanding of how to care for it continues to evolve.

There will always be new and improved research, ingredients, treatment techniques, and technologies.

There will always be evolving ways to support healthy skin, to relieve pain, improve movement, calm the nervous system, and promote overall wellness.

👩‍🏫If we’re going to recommend products, perform treatments, and guide you toward healthier skin, a healthier body, and improved well-being, we believe it’s our responsibility to stay current—not because someone requires it but because YOU deserve it.

🏆Whether we’re earning advanced certifications, attending workshops, completing CEU courses, or taking classes simply because we’re passionate about the topic, every opportunity helps us better understand how to care for your skin, your body, and your overall wellness safely, thoughtfully, and effectively.

It truly is an investment in you, our valued clients. Regardless of your reason for coming to see us, you deserve professionals who are committed to learning and staying up on the best ways to provide care.

At Purple Lotus KC, we’ll never stop being students…because you deserve professionals who never stop learning. 💜

🤔Monday Musings🤔

As I sit on my patio this morning with my cup of coffee and our kitty Hazel repeatedly nuzzling my hand encouraging me to put my phone down lol I realized something…

Over the weekend, I hadn’t prepared any of this week’s social media posts, a task I had told myself I would do.

And for a brief moment, panic set in because I didn’t do that very task I’d promised myself I was going to do.

And then I paused and realized the reasons why I didn’t get it done.

Simply put, I spent the weekend doing something I don’t do nearly enough.

I was being present in my own life.

I got to dance with my husband.

I enjoyed spending time with friends listening to live music.

I had the privilege of making and enjoying Sunday dinner with our son and daughter-in-love.

And to be real honest with you, I simply didn’t want to think about work related task or expectations or to do list.

Instead, I was making memories. Not checking off task on that to-do list.

And you know what? As I sat here in that moment of panic, I felt guilty about it.

Isn’t that funny? I felt guilty for doing the one thing I preach about… self-care!

We tell ourselves that mental and physical rest is important.

That spending time with the people we love matters.

That slowing down is healthy.

Yet somehow, when we actually do those things, we feel like we should have been accomplishing more instead. We should have been cleaning the house, working on work related task, running errands, etc

So here’s the realization I came to…..Maybe real self-care isn’t always adding another healthy habit to our routine.

Maybe sometimes it’s giving ourselves permission to put down the to-do list, to be fully present and to remember that life isn’t just about getting things done on our to-do list.

It’s also about collecting the moments that make life beautiful.

💜 So I’m curious…

When was the last time you gave yourself permission to simply enjoy life without feeling guilty about what wasn’t getting done?

There are no wrong answers here. I’d truly love to hear your thoughts.

Ok, back to giving this sweet girl the cuddles and pets she desperately wants 🐈‍⬛

Have a blessed and meaningful day my friends!
