Today we are featuring our 2025 KCPCAWARDS recipient - Locsnsoca aka KESI! 🥇💇🏽‍♀️🏆

Kesi has been a certified Loctician for 6 years. In 2020, Kesi worked as Fraud bank manager and decided to quit during COVID and follow her passion for locs. At the bank, is where Kesi met Janee's uncle Damon and quickly became friends. Kesi has been to family events with Damon, but did not know Janee was the owner of Leenaj Beauty and Barber at the time.
In 2022 when Kesi was looking for a new salon home, Damon recommended Leenaj. Janee met with Kesi at the salon and they instantly connected.

Kesi said:
"After being nominated three times and winning once, I would love to have a TEAM WIN. LEENAJ has been home to me from day 1! So to get a TEAM AWARD to celebrate everyone's accomplishments, would be amazing! But even without a win LEENAJ has lot to celebrate! Today we are featuring non other than Mister Smooth CD! 🥇💈💇🏽

CD (Cutris) has been a licensed barber for 41 years and at Leenaj Beauty and Barber for 24 years of those years!
How does someone maintain years of consistency and loyalty to Leenaj, you may ask?
CD explains: Mrs. Mitchem (Co-owner Leenaj, architect and Janee's dad) use to get his haircut by now retired Mr. Reese. CD knows Joe and meet Mr. Mitchem while he was getting haircut one day.
Mr. Mitchem was considering adding a barbershop with the salon but needed barbers. So both Mr. Reese and CD was approached as being the foundation for Leenaj Barber! CD was also part of the construction crew by helping out when needed! That's how Leenaj became family to CD and not just a place of work. The rest is history!

CD said:
"After being nominated as a shop 3 times, it's good to be recognized by making it to the FINALS this time for BEST SALON. It feels great to be recognized for our contribution to the community after 25 years!

MoMo will be a licensed barber for 1 year in July.
She's been working at Leenaj since barber college in 2024!
MoMo first learned about Leenaj as a client, at the age of 23 in 2009 after my mother passed. Quincey and Janee took on motherly figures/mentors and currently help her navigate through life and motherhood. 🫶🏽💗

Today we are featuring MISS LEENAJ herself- Janee! 🥇💐💇🏽‍♀️

Janee has been a licensed stylist for 35 years! At the start of Janee's career she worked alongside some of KC Top salon owners, stylist, barbers and locticians!
But one thing she knew for sure, ownership was what she wanted. She's been the owner alongside her parents for the past 25 years! She wanted to build a legacy for her family from the ground up, literally while serving the community. Leenaj is an environment where clients become friends and friends are treated like family!
This is also Leenaj 3rd nomination but 1st FINALIST!

" I began my Professional career at Leenaj in 2002-2008. With the proper mentorship from Mr. Mitch, I than owned/operated JoeyCuts Barber Salon, 2008-2014. Than I owned/operated 180V Barber Salon, 2013-2024.
Due to unforseen causes, I returned back to my Leenaj family in 2024 and am currently operating there.
It makes me feel good to know that Leenaj has been nominated. Although I haven't worked in any other salons, I've worked with a plethora of salon/shop owners. I think the niche that separates Leenaj from a lot of others is the love 💙, genuineness, and family atmosphere that burst through the walls!
There's never a dull moment inside and everybody supports one another! 😆🫶🏽
Also, the level of technicians that work there are top tier! Award winners, platform artist, celebrity stylist, Stylist to celebrities... I mean, the list goes on and on!

To me, Leenaj is home! 🏡

After 24 years as a licensed stylist and 14 years at Leenaj, us being nominated is both humbling and rewarding. The relationships we’ve built along the way have truly turned into family. Honestly, Leenaj’s doesn’t even feel like a work environment — it feels like a family household filled with love, support, and genuine connections.

So for our salon to be recognized in this way means so much to all of us. I’ve always tried to give my clients and team my best, so this recognition feels very special and deeply appreciated.
