Time is valuable! This week Matthew Hermanson from KUMC Office of Academic & Student Affairs helped 17 U-CHaMP students learn the skills they need to manage their time, stay organized, and succeed.

U-CHaMP Scholars recently attended orientation before starting classes for the upcoming academic year at KUMC. At orientation, Scholars learned more about the U-CHaMP program and were able to meet other students in their cohort. Scholars come from several different programs, including Occupational Therapy, Respiratory Therapy, Genetic Counseling, and many others. This year, U-CHaMP awarded a total of $130K in scholarships ranging from $4-8K. We're excited to see all of our Scholars on campus this year!

At the end of July, Inspire Health Foundation and CHC SEK in Pittsburg, KS hosted a summer healthcare camp. Area 7th-12th grades were invited to attend a weeklong day camp that included presentations, facility tours and hands-on activities centered on different aspects of healthcare. During the week, KUMC SHP Genetic Counseling student, Murren Kelly spoke to the group virtually to talk about genetic counseling and conducted a family tree activity. U-CHaMP Outreach and Recruitment Specialist, Brandi Brenner shared information about SHP programs and the U-CHaMP Program. Her presentation concluded with a quick match game, word search, and group photo. Thank you to Leah Gagnon and Inspire Health for sharing this opportunity!

On July 22, U-CHaMP Ambassadors were invited to an exciting and immersive Ambassador Experience Event at KU Medical Center! This special event was designed to celebrate, develop and engage our ambassadors through interactive activities and hands-on learning experiences while learning about SHP departments.

Congratulations to our KU graduates! Nineteen U-CHaMP Scholars graduated and plan to serve in rural or underserved communities. Special congratulations to Graham Blackwood, recipient of the Akinwuntan Leadership Award, which recognizes exceptional leadership among students in the School of Health Professions. Congratulations to all!
