This is Khae and my dad’s neighbor in Ban Poy Dern. He’s the village barber.
One thing that surprised me is that he doesn’t even begin cutting hair until around 7:00 p.m. Because the daytime heat is so intense, many people wait until after sunset to run errands, visit neighbors, or get a haircut. It’s not unusual for him to be busy well into the night.
Back home, most barbershops close before dinner. Here, the village comes alive after dark.
It’s these simple differences—the slower pace, adapting to the climate, and neighbors gathering together in the evening—that have given me such a wonderful glimpse into everyday life in rural Thailand.
Sometimes the smallest moments become the most memorable. ❤️🇹🇭

A Salon Owner’s Perspective… ✂️🇹🇭
While exploring the Centara Ayutthaya shopping center, I couldn’t resist stopping to check out a local salon. After nearly 30 years behind the chair, it’s impossible for me to walk past one without peeking inside!
No matter where you are in the world, there’s something familiar about a salon. The sounds of blow dryers, the conversations between stylists and guests, and the confidence that comes from helping someone feel beautiful—it truly is a universal language.
One thing that really caught my attention was the pricing. A women’s haircut is about 250 baht—roughly $7.50 USD! Even premium services like highlights, hair color, and permanent straightening are a fraction of what we typically charge in the United States.
Of course, prices reflect much more than the service itself. Every country has different wages, operating costs, rent, and cost of living. It was fascinating to see how the beauty industry adapts while still offering many of the same services we provide back home.
I also loved seeing the salon’s clean, modern design and meeting one of the friendly team members. Even halfway around the world, I felt right at home.
Beauty truly has no borders. ❤️✂️🇹🇭

Dear Friends and Guests,
Many of you know that my father recently suffered a stroke while visiting Thailand. After much thought and planning, my husband and I will be traveling to Thailand to help bring my father and his wife, Khae, safely home to the United States so he can continue receiving the medical care and rehabilitation he needs.
We are planning to begin our journey on July 10 and I anticipate returning to the salon on August 4.
If you currently have an appointment scheduled during this time, our team will be reaching out to discuss options and make arrangements to ensure you are taken care of during my absence or to reschedule your appointment for after my return.
Thank you in advance for your patience, understanding, and support as our family navigates this unexpected situation. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers for safe travels, a smooth journey home, and continued healing for my father.
