Keanne Cuts Hair
Hi, I’m Keanne 👋 Hairstylist at Cosmic Beauty Kapolei. I specialize in lived-in cuts, dimensional color + helping people understand their natural texture.
Here for realistic routines, effortless hair, and feeling more like yourself.
You don’t actually want perfection.
You want options.
Social media shows us these perfect routines, with perfect products, creating perfect curls. (That are usually done somewhere where climate control is a regular btw)
And when I first started, I thought that was “the goal.”
Like if I knew all the techniques, used the right products, and did everything correctly… my curls should look perfect every time.
And if they didn’t? I don’t deserve to claim I know anything at all (dramatic I know😂)
But after talking to so many of you in my chair, I don’t think that’s what most of us are looking for.
We want to know HOW to style our hair.
We want the knowledge. The confidence. The choice.
But we also want to be able to do less and feel good letting our hair be wild.
I love a good cast and perfectly styled wash day. (I actually don’t love day 1, it’s too perfect. I love the longevity I get out of it)
But I also love big messy hair. I love ocean hair. I love just styling my face framers and throwing the rest up. I love dry styling with mousse. I love following NO rules.
The difference is knowing I have the option.
I made peace with being the wild hair lady and in that I’ve gained freedom.
You shouldn’t learn how to style just to make it a chore. Learn so you have the choice✨

WATER is the main character on wash day. Without it, your shampoo is fighting for its life.
Hair needs to be properly saturated while you shampoo AND condition. This is the only way your products will do their job
Before you reach for more shampoo add more water first. (I didn’t say don’t double cleanse)
Before you reach for more conditioner add MORE water first!
The goal is to get your hair to stay wet and be balanced. You’ll actually see the hair almost like “give up” and stay wet. It’s very neat.
Wait I’m not done yet
LATHER yo dang shampoo. Rub your hands together until your shampoo is creamy. Then put it on your WET hair.
Your shampoo will spread further and you don’t waste product.
If you have low porosity hair, a hot towel or steamer will help your hair to hold water.
If you have high porosity, using a bonding treatment will help fix the structure so you can hold water.
And if you’re a unicorn you just wash your hair and move along ok?

I’ve talked to sooo many women that have moved here and what used to work DOESN’T anymore.
Whether it’s because of humidity, water coming out the shower head, more exposure to the elements, or being more active. I hear all of those.
So if I’m laying out all the things I have to do for my or my clients hair but it’s December, 80 degrees and sunny, and you’re in an area it’s freezing, we’re going to have a mismatch.
Not that the advice isn’t helpful, or won’t work. but these products are expensive af and I’m down for you not wasting money for sure.
Another alternative is finding an online educator in an area near or similar weather to yours.
What worked for me in Florida works in Hawai’i but I could get away with wearing it longer when I had central AC at home.
Lmk where you’re at!

1. You need to give the curls time to come back to life. If you’ve been beating the s**t out of your curls with color and/or heat (hi, me!), your curls aren’t going to act right just cuz you decided to embrace them. When I started, the bottom 4 inches were STRAIGHT. No product on this earth could bring them back to life. Just time. So please give your hair a chance. I made a goal of 1 year and I thought it was impossible when I started. It was the best thing I ever did.
1. Less is more. I’m stoked at how many products for texture there are these days. Also stoked on how much content around texture is available to learn from. But to start, it’s quite simple. A leave-in and a holding product. (Obviously there are expectations to the rule, but MOST can have a leave in and a holding) let’s keep it simple and focus on the water to product ratio, and the habits around your hair.
3. You can do whatever the hell you want. Don’t want to embrace? Perfect. You do? Welcome! Nobody gets to extra points for forcing themselves to do things they don’t want. Am I happy I did? Hell yah. Do I still look at photos of my hair before and want that too? Also hell yah. The intrinsic human conflict is wanting what we don’t have all the time. You are normal and you aren’t doing anyone favors by suppressing your expressive self.
