What Do I think about injectables Part 3:⁠ 💉

Often my clients say “I’ll never do injectables because I’ve seen my friend look weird!”⁠ 👀

Y’all, this is almost always an overfill of cheek or lip filler. Don’t get this confused with a neurotoxin like Dysport or Botox. And yes, injectors overfill all the time. Choose your injector wisely, communicate your look, and go light!⁠

Fillers: Restalyne, Juvederm, others⁠
⁠
If you opt in for filler, start with a tiny syringe and, once you’ve lived with it, add more if desired.⁠
⁠
Fillers simply fill in the spots in your face that have lost collagen. Think of collagen as the “baby fat” that makes our face appear round and “youthful”. We all lose collagen differently due to sun damage and genetics. ⁠
⁠
Fillers “plump” our skin and only last some time. It can be 6 months-a few years depending on our age and the location of injection. Fillers do not reverse or prevent aging.⁠

I love fillers! But I only recommend them after you’ve committed to things in this order:⁠

☀️ Sunscreen (if you’re not using this daily…and SPF in your makeup doesn’t count!, don’t go to #2)⁠
🧴 AHAs, Vit C and Retinol/Vit A⁠

What do I think about injectables Part 2: 💉

When most clients talk about injections, y’all typically mean neurotoxins.

Neurotoxins: (Dysport, Xeomin, Botox and more)

These are injected in small does in multiple areas in your skin to paralyze the muscles. Your face creates less expression and therefore the expression lines don’t become permanent “wrinkles”.

Neurotoxins are a PREVENTATIVE. The less times per day you move your face, the less lines you make permanent. 💆‍♀️

*We have to decide how little expression we want, and be outspoken to your injector to tell her much expression you want! (I personally ask for about half the injections the average client wants. I’m ok with some lines.)

You should always focus first on your skin. If you’re not regularly using professional skincare with sunscreen, AHAs, retinols, and Vitamin C, it doesn’t matter what you’re injecting under your skin.

First of all, I group injectables into two categories:⁠
-neurotoxins: Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, others⁠
-fillers: Restalyne, Juvederm, others⁠

You should always focus first on your skin. If you’re not regularly using professional skincare with sunscreen, AHAs, retinols, and Vitamin C, it doesn’t matter what you’re injecting under your skin. ⁠

You can paralyze the muscles underneath but your skin will still be thick, saggy and have sun spots and redness.⁠
⁠
Once you’ve invested in professional skincare, which is a fraction of the cost of injections, I fully support the next step. ⁠

Full disclosure: I personally use neurotoxins quarterly and have used filler once (and will probably use within the next couple years).⁠ ⁠
