I have been working with George Downing, the downtown projects ombudsman, this year and thru the end of last year. I wanted to be able to provide & consolidate info on the downtown construction.

All of the information below is directly provided from George. I had asked my top concerns as well.

Keep in mind things change swiftly with any construction. And also can take considerably longer. It can be a can of worms my friends.
I will update this as often as I can.

I am beyond grateful for all of my clients the past few years for your patience thru- covid, my sickness, my boyfriends and I appreciate all of you!
Let’s do this necessary inconvenience one more time.

I am going to make it as positive as I can! And minimize disrupting my business. And as I’m sure you guessed I do have a backup plan, and a plan for even after that. So let’s do this!

DOWNTOWN BUSINESSES-

If you have a printed menu, business info or anything you’d like shared I’ll have a table at the salon with ALL information. Please share with me so I can share.

MY GOAL IS TO MAKE THIS TRANSITION A SMOOTH AND CALCULATED ONE FOR ALL OUR CLIENTS AND SMALL BUSINESSES. I feel as though we have all fallen to wayside a bit, with this, I will be at all downtown establishments more. As often as I can.

*DOWNTOWN C Square INFRASTRUCTURE INFO*

Central Square phase only-timeline- THIS mid July-late October 2026 (after July 13 tentative)
•Total project est timeline- 3 years (May-Nov)

ROAD ACCESSIBILITY-
A whole loop/lane accessible the entire time of project
Always able to access to the building-accessibility points/sidewalks

•CONSTRUCTION-
5-6 day a week tentative
No Sundays & Saturdays have to be pre approved
Approx Mon-Friday 7am-5pm

STRUCTURAL IMPACT-
What is the plan for the building issue utility connects w pipes etc if it came to that-
NO PLAN up to individual building owners

DISRUPTIONS-
How will they minimize disruptions (what measures are being taken to mitigate noise, dust, pollution and vibrations)
*Some dust mitigation and no other measures are being taken at this time

PLUMBING-
There is est to be one day without water. I have asked for 3 weeks notice.

I asked about-
Contaminants in water/Biofilm/Corrosion byproducts

Only info provided-
Keene banned lead pipes in the early 1800s
New pipes and old pipes won't connect to each other. Before new water is hooked up it will be tested and safe for use
There is a plumber on retainer*

PARKING-
It will be closed off by sections. They won’t block off all downtown parking. But they will work on whole sections at once. As in the section in front of my building & UCC. Etc for the other areas.
There is a set number the construction company is allowed to block off at any given time. TBD
Keep in mind we also have a lot of accessibility on the majority of surrounding streets!

GAZEBO-
For the actual project there will be no change to the fountain, gazebo, statues and the locations won’t change. The gazebo will be worked on at a later date.

TREES-

60 removed
Approx 20 replanted
About 140 new trees
An arborist has been hired
Numbers are approx as they originally included Gilbo Ave
