This newly 21 yr old needed a refresh for her layers. I’ve been doing this gorgeous girls hair for a couple of years now and it’s been amazing watching her grow up into the stunning young lady she is today.
We decided to wait until closer to summer to touch up her highlights but that grow out is seamless! 🤌🏼
I can’t wait to have her in my chair again soon!🖤

🎉 We have some exciting news coming soon!
Today all stylists are out for education in NY. Carabelle and our receptionist will be in to take nail appointments and answer phone calls. We will all be back tomorrow.
Education is at the forefront of Dark Horse Salon. Yes we receive free education from Aveda but that alone isn’t enough. As artists we realize we are still learning and growing. If we believe there is nothing else for us to learn, growth stops.
I feel so grateful that I’m able to take us to be educated outside of our comfort zone. This has been an amazing time for collaborating and brainstorming. We are truly ready for the next level! 🌱🖤

☀️My Saturday ended on a high note! This little ray of sunshine came in for her highlight refresh. She’s always such a delight to have at the salon because from start to finish she has a smile on her face. She truly feels pampered during her whole process.
This sweet little beauty is ready for Spring! 🌻

Curly hair is a whole vibe on its own. Having curly hair myself I understand to need for a great curly cut. I have fought my curls, cried, and I’m notorious for just blowing out my curly hair straight. I say curls are bipolar, you never know what you will get each day.
Since opening my own salon I have received an influx of curly clients that have experienced a “curly cut” gone wrong from a curly hair “specialist “. I myself don’t claim to be a specialist of curly hair as I’m well versed in all types of hair. I will tell you though that having my own challenges with my curls might make me an expert.
🌱So what to look for in a specialist, what specific training have they had in cutting curly hair? My expertise was a 2 weekend long, in person training with Ouidad cuts and products while in Baltimore. I also had the pleasure to take a straight razor curly cutting class at the Bumble and bumble academy downtown NY city.
🌱Does your curly specialist have curly hair themselves? While this doesn’t always matter as there are stylists also skilled in all hair types it really makes a difference in understanding how those curls work.
🌱What tools does your curly specialist use? I have found that if a stylist comes at your curly hair with a feather razor or carving comb…..RUN! A feather razor is used to create texture that translates to frizz in curly hair. Most stylists that use a feather razor or carving comb are NOT replacing the blade between each client which that dull blade will tug and rip through the hair causing you guessed it, FRIZZ! Also an inexperienced stylist armed with a feather razor destroys the structure needed to build up the curls.
My biggest suggestion is to do a consultation with your stylist you choose. If the stylist can’t answer your questions intelligently or if something feels off, keep looking. Also ask for pictures of curly cuts they have accomplished and continue to do. I have multiple pictures of my fixed clients that I don’t post out of respect for them. As they don’t want to shame their previous “curly hair specialist” they just want someone who listens and can properly execute what they promise. 🌱🖤

🎉Happy Birthday to this baddie! She came into the salon wanting to be a little lighter and a whole lot brighter. Her grow out was very dark and her ends had gotten dull. I decided to weave and tease back to back baby lights and we finished her ends with a wet baylayage.
She was able to preserve her length with our Aveda’s Botanical Repair system that I applied throughout her service. Because being all blonde doesn’t mean you have to compromise length!
She left with a smile and our Botanical Repair leave in treatment to continue to use at home. It was a successful birthday gift to get her hair back to the bright blonde she loves! ✨
Yes, I came in on a Sunday to do this for her because she’s my sister and she gets VIP treatment😉
🎉March Model Month is coming up and we have big news! Our newest stylist is joining us in April and is in need of models for March.
This girlie is a natural with color, highlights, and vivids! She also enjoys all different types of haircuts! She has used other color lines before but is now becoming more proficient with Aveda color. So come bring your inspo pics and get your spot now to become a model!
Openings are for Wednesday and Thursday evenings and Saturdays. 50% off ALL services. Must call the salon or DM to reserve your appointment. No online bookings yet. We can’t wait to see you at Dark Horse Salon!🌱🖤
💫Our salon’s sweetheart Ashley just manifested her dream! She has been trying to move back to her hometown and now the opportunity has come to light and she gets to move back home.
We aren’t saying goodbye, we are saying we will see her soon! I’m so happy I was able to watch her grow as a stylist and I can’t wait until she comes back to visit us or get her hair refreshed!
We will all miss her lighthearted attitude and witty quips! Her next salon won the jackpot with this gorgeous momma! We are the lucky ones to be able to call her a work sister for life!🌱🖤
💫Wishing for your blended color or blonding experience that wins all of your hair goals? This is what we are here for! We use our expertise to give you the hair of your dreams. Never stripey or uneven, just perfect and soft or bright depending on your desires.
We are all booked up this week and most of February but get your appointment in during March and April for that spring hair!🌱🖤
