Ever wonder WHY old permanent makeup can turn gray, blue, red or orange? 👀
Nope—it’s not always as simple as “bad pigment.”
Permanent makeup pigment lives in the skin, which means how it looks years from now can be influenced by pigment selection, color theory, implantation depth, technique, skin undertone, skin type, sun exposure, skincare products, medications, lifestyle and how the pigment naturally breaks down over time.
That’s why you may see old permanent eyebrows fade gray or blue, while someone else’s brows become red, pink or orange.
And here’s the important part: faded or discolored permanent makeup doesn’t automatically mean we can just put brown over it and call it a day. 🙅♀️
Depending on what’s left in the skin, we may be able to use PMU color correction to neutralize the unwanted tone before applying your target color. In other cases, the existing pigment may be too dark, saturated or compromised, and permanent makeup removal or lightening needs to happen first.
This is exactly why color theory + experience matter. ✨

Ok this is a great question! Idk about the whole timeline shift having anything to do with it BUT the esthetician and crunchy mama (for those that don’t know the term it’s for those that are all about all natural ingredients/products) in me is curious!
When i was little i remember using it to soothe and protect areas that would get chaffed from running around playing or super dry chapped skin from the harsh MN winters but nothing else.
Recently the trend has been to use it in a technique called slugging. But he’s not wrong in the it’s petroleum based so what is that doing adversely to our bodies? 🤔
Also the Wisconsin girl in me totally giggled at the inventors name “Cheesebro” 🫢😂
