Your skin has three main layers: the epidermis (top layer), the dermis (middle layer), and the subcutaneous layer (deeper fat layer).

A traditional body tattoo is implanted deeper into the dermis so it lasts boldly and permanently.

Permanent makeup is different. We place pigment just below the epidermis — in the upper dermal layer.

That controlled, shallow placement is what allows it to soften over time and fade naturally instead of living in the skin forever.

When PMU is placed too deep, that’s when you see blurring, ashy tones, or color migration. Depth control is everything.
