Jamaica’s two international airports are officially closed as Category Four Hurricane Melissa begins to impact the island, Transport Minister Daryl Vaz says. Speaking at a press briefing Sunday afternoon, he said 11 flights were accommodated out of Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay Sunday morning before operations were shuttered at midday. Operations at Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston ended late Saturday.

Emergency crews have been dispatched after a car plunged into the sea near the Portmore Causeway Bridge, which links Kingston and St Catherine, on Sunday morning, the police say.

The Marine Police and officers from the Hunts Bay Police Station have responded to the scene.

It is believed that the vehicle had multiple occupants, but details remain unclear at this time.
