Our community means everything to us, and we are incredibly honored and humbled to have received the Heart of Gemütlichkeit Award from the Donna Guepfer Fund for 2026. 🥹❤️

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗮 𝗚𝘂𝗲𝗽𝗳𝗲𝗿 Fund was created in memory of Donna Guepfer, a beloved member of the Oktoberfest Royal Family and a passionate advocate for education, acceptance, and the Special Needs Community. Donna’s legacy lives on through a mission dedicated to supporting Special Fester families and helping make Oktoberfest a more inclusive and accessible celebration for everyone.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗮 𝗚𝘂𝗲𝗽𝗳𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗙𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝘀:
✨ Compassionate financial assistance by providing grants to non-profits, schools, and families in our community for children with special needs
✨ Help for children with the unique challenges they face and supporting essential needs for their children both at home, at school, and within our community
✨ Adaptive equipment for children including adaptive sports gear for athletics, adaptive reading materials for children with vision impairment, and so much more!

𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗔𝗺𝗮𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗙𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆:
This year, the Special Fester “Heart of the Fest” Parade Float was a labor of love prepared by the Special Fester Committee and funded by Brilliant Bodywork MedSpa, with the vision of creating a place where our past Special Festers can return year after year, regardless of age, to ride together, wave to the crowds, hear their names cheered, and continue to be part of the Oktoberfest family.

We feel so honored to be part of the celebration for the people and organizations who help make our community more welcoming, compassionate, and connected. ❤️

Because Gemütlichkeit is more than a word. It's the warmth of being welcomed. It's the joy of being together. It's knowing that you belong.

Thank you so much to Dave Guepfer, Donna Guepfer, and The Special Fester Committee.❤️

❤️ Built for them. Inspired by inclusion. Created so every Special Fester knows they will always be part of the Fest.❤️

We are incredibly proud to introduce the new Special Fester “Heart of the Fest” Parade Float, created specifically to celebrate our past La Crosse Oktoberfest Special Festers. 🥨❤️

For decades, our Special Festers have brought immeasurable joy to Oktoberfest. But as they grow older, we wanted to make sure there continued to be a safe, inclusive and accessible place for them to come back, participate in the parades and be celebrated by the community that loves them.

That mission is especially personal to our own Ms. Stephanie.

As a former patient of Shriners Hospitals for Children, Stephanie experienced firsthand how meaningful it is when someone takes the time to remove barriers and make sure you are included rather than watching from the sidelines.

That experience helped inspire a simple idea:

❤️ What if we built a float where accessibility wasn't an afterthought, but part of the design from the very beginning?

And that is exactly what we set out to do.

The approximately 8' x 21' float includes a wheelchair-accessible ramp and securement, steps with a safety railing, Braille elements, removable seating and other features designed to accommodate Special Festers with different abilities. For nighttime parades, the float uses steady, non-strobing lighting, and parents and guardians are able to walk alongside the float for additional support and safety.

And because inclusion can also be FUN, we turned it into a giant German-inspired ROOT B**R GARDEN! 🥨🌿

At the center is a huge Lebkuchen-style gingerbread heart celebrating our Special Festers as the "Heart of the Fest.” The float is filled with glowing lanterns, German bunting, greenery, edelweiss and Bavarian-inspired details.

Two wooden root b**r barrels were even hand-painted with the help of our Special Festers themselves, proudly displaying:

❤️ SPECIAL FESTER — EST. 1989
🍺 ROOT B**R

The float was lovingly prepared by the Special Fester Committee and funded by Brilliant Bodywork MedSpa.

But the most important part of this float isn't the decorations.

It's who will be sitting on it. ❤️

Past Special Festers are invited to come back regardless of age— to ride together, wave to the crowds, hear their names cheered again and continue being part of the Oktoberfest family.

Because becoming a Special Fester isn't something you outgrow.

Once you're part of this family, you're always part of this family.

We hope that when people see this float coming down the parade route, they don't just see a beautiful new float.

We hope they see belonging. Accessibility. Inclusion. Joy. And a community making room for everyone.

Most of all, we hope every past Special Fester riding aboard knows exactly what that giant heart represents:

❤️ YOU are, and always will be, the Heart of the Fest. ❤️

🥨 COME SEE OUR SPECIAL FESTERS! 🥨

Our past Special Festers and their brand-new float may be seen throughout the next two weekends:

🍎 La Crescent Applefest Parade — THIS SUNDAY!
🌙 La Crosse Oktoberfest Torchlight Parade — next week!
🍁 La Crosse Oktoberfest Maple Leaf Parade — next week!

When you see that giant gingerbread heart and our incredible Special Festers coming down the parade route, show the love! 👏❤️

Wave. Give them a high-five. Shout their names. Let them hear and feel just how much this community loves having them as part of our Oktoberfest tradition.

Because this float was built for inclusion…

But THEY are what makes it special. ❤️🥨
