He made sure his mentee Matt got what he needed โ taking notes during every conversation, following up with research on clinical questions, and even talking through residency programs and real-world experience together.

Meet Chris Gnip, PT, DPT, our first Member Spotlight!
Chris is National Director of Clinical Education at Select Medical, where he focuses on orthopedic rehabilitation, professional development, and clinical education. He also serves as Chair of the APTA Orthopedics Clinical Practice Guideline (CPG) Integration Work Group, helping clinicians bring evidence-based recommendations into everyday patient care.
Like many PTs, Chris found the profession as a patient. After knee surgery at 18, he was drawn to physical therapy's mix of science, anatomy, and problem-solving, along with the chance to build meaningful relationships with patients. Swipe to hear why, more than 20 years later, he'd make the same choice again.
What he wishes more people knew: "As movement experts, we are uniquely positioned to help individuals improve function, prevent future problems, and manage chronic conditions by treating the whole person, not just a diagnosis."

Can a 3-minute video change how patients think about pain? ๐ง
Pain neuroscience education (PNE) has been shown to reduce kinesiophobia and other psychosocial barriers when used alongside manual therapy, but does delivery method matter? This pilot study set out to find out, randomizing ๐ญ๐ต ๐๐ผ๐๐ป๐ด ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐๐น๐๐ ๐๐ถ๐๐ต ๐ธ๐ป๐ฒ๐ฒ ๐ฝ๐ฎ๐ถ๐ป into either a brief online PNE video or a control anatomy video.
Using the Fear-Avoidance Beliefs Questionnaire (FABQ) and the Y-Balance Test (YBT) at multiple time points, the study found online PNE was ๐ณ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ฏ๐น๐ฒ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐๐ฒ๐น๐น ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ฒ๐ถ๐๐ฒ๐ฑ by participants, but ๐ฑ๐ถ๐ฑ๐ป'๐ ๐ฝ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ฑ๐๐ฐ๐ฒ ๐๐ถ๐ด๐ป๐ถ๐ณ๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ป๐ ๐ฐ๐ต๐ฎ๐ป๐ด๐ฒ๐ in fear-avoidance beliefs or functional performance. The authors use these honest, null findings to lay the groundwork for future, larger-scale research on accessible, online pain education tools.
