What’s the difference between foil highlights and Balayage?
Foil highlights can be done in a variety of ways but traditionally the highlights are even in width from roots to ends and can require more maintenance.
Balayage is color painted on the surface of the hair which can vary in width and can be a softer grow out and more natural looking depending on the desired result.
Caution is needed on deciding what method is right for you. If your hair is very dark balayage may leave your hair too warm.
When hair is foiled, the foil helps the process by keeping the coior moist and warm during lightening.
With Balayage the lightening process stops when the product dries, and if your hair is dark may leave the highlights looking orange.

Who needs a day off when you could be doing this!

I began my career at Westham College of Fashion in London, England. After receiving my certification, I went immediately to work at renowned Daniel Galvin salon located in the London’s west end and trained under some of the worlds finest stylists.
In 1985 I had planned to move to Santa Barbara in California and stopped in St Louis Mo to spend a couple of weeks visiting friends.
As they say, “we make plans and God laughs.”
While in St Louis I met a salon owner who offered me a position as a stylist and educator. Who would have known that six years later I would buy and own that salon.
Well, here I am today, married to a St. Louis girl, with two wonderful grown children and a grandson.
I have been blessed with a fabulous career where ongoing education and travelling to other cities and attending academies such as Vidal Sassoon,Toni & Guy, Martin Parsons and too many classes to name have helped me become a better stylist and educator. I’ve brought my experience to the United States. Opening my own
salon in 1992, “Gary Palmer, A Hair Salon” which soon gained a reputation as one of the top
salons in the St. Louis. My personal educational program launched the careers
of many of St. Louis’s most talented stylists. In 1999, I returned to my hairstyling roots in London, where I was fortunate to work and manage
Faltricks, a group of three internationally known salons.
In 2002, I brought my family back to St. Louis, where I continued my career as a stylist and educator for L’oread
Professionnel where I taught creative hair colouring techniques.
Even after thirty years in the profession I still enjoy discovering new ways of colouring and cutting hair.
I currently see clients at Vakkar Salon in Ladue Mo
