What Is Grey Blending & Why Is It Trending?

Grey blending is one of the biggest shifts we’ve seen in hair color over the last few years—and we are here for it!

Instead of trying to completely hide every grey hair, (for the 1-2 weeks before it starts to grow back in 🥴) grey blending diffuses them, which is way more casual.

There are two main ways we blend greys:

Soft Grey Coverage
Using a less opaque Demi permanent color at the root can soften the amount of greys while still allowing a few sparkles to peek through. The result is a way softer line of demarcation as your hair grows, making regrowth much less noticeable. Our clients are finding they can stretch appointments to every 6–10 weeks instead of every 2–5 weeks.

Grey Blending with Highlights & Lowlights
Another approach is strategically weaving lighter and darker pieces throughout the hair. By intertwining color with your natural greys, we can “trick the eye” into seeing less contrast between your natural color and the silver strands. A lot of times we add warmth to salt and pepper hairs which looks softer on the skin. Depending on your hair and goals, this can often allow you to go months between touch-ups.

So why is it trending?

Because Grey blending offers:
Softer grow-out
Less frequent maintenance
More dimension and movement than a solid color
A modern cool confident vibe (we earned them after all)
Flexibility as your hair changes over time, just add more or less.
