15 years ago at 11:28 p.m., I experienced a love story I never knew my heart needed.
I still remember the first time I heard your cry. God knew I needed you in my life. He knew how scared I was of failing as a young mom, but He gave me the strength I needed, one day at a time.
I can still picture you as a little toddler running toward me with your arms stretched out, wanting me to pick you up. Now, somehow, I’m the one reaching up to hug you. But those hugs still feel the same full of love and warmth.
I’m not sure how you went from 2 to 15 in what feels like the blink of an eye. Back then, our world was so small, and you needed me for everything. Now, your world is so much bigger.
I miss the little moments sometimes because these days you’re always on the go with school, sports, new adventures, old friends, and new ones. Your phone is your world now, and your room is your space. Watching you grow into your own person is both the hardest and most beautiful part of motherhood.
I couldn’t be prouder to be your mama.
You are brave, smart, kind, courageous, and strong. Watching you become the incredible young man you are today has been the greatest privilege of my life.
Happy 15th birthday, my sweet boy. No matter how tall you get, how independent you become, or where life takes you, you’ll always be the little boy who ran into my arms and I’ll always be here, reaching back.
