a few months ago you got purple highlights. Fast forward to today & they’re fading all sorts of crazy colors- green, yellow, and suuuper slight blonde in some parts. You’re sick of it, so you sit in my chair & say “I just want to color it all black.” 🖤
“Slay, but we have to fill it first.”

What’s that?? I thought going all one dark color was simple 😫 You may think your stylist is over complicating things, but I’m going to tell you why they’re not.

When we lift the hair super light, we’re taking out a lot of the warm pigments that are the backbone of those darker colors. If we slap black over top of that without adding those back in you could end up with..

✨ muddy, faded color
✨ weird green/ashy tones
✨ color that ghosts you after 3 washes

Filling is giving your hair the pigment it’s been missing before we turn you into a dark haired baddie again (and not a faded, muddy haired saddie🥺🤭)

It’s not us trying to make your appointment longer for fun, and it’s not a secret stylist upcharge. It’s the difference between a deep, inky black & a hair color that looks empty & gray (but not the cute kind).
