Another attempt to pass the fee. This time it was at The City of Lake Geneva Court. I had a ticket to pay. I present my debit card, and she says, "and there will be a fee." I went into my, "It's a federal law, you cant pass credit card processing fees on a debit card." Both the new woman working and the seasoned woman working there who came to assist, were not familiar with the law, and were baffled as what to do. We settled on I would drop a check in the mail and left.
We can not allow anyone, especially the City, to be allowed to violate Federal Law.
I also heard that the DMV is charging a fee on debit cards. What in the "monkey see, monkey do" is going on out there?

Asking for a friend;
What do you think is the number one reason micro businesses (under 3 ppl) fail?
What do you think is the reason they succeed?
I think if this thread can stay positive, this may actually be of some benefit to all of us in this networking group.

I dont know who needs to hear this but it is a hill I am prepared to die on.
I think passing the credit card processing fee has gotten out of hand and is low class, poor business skills and a very "sheeple" thing to do.
None of you are doing it right if you do. I was just told to pay 3% fee and they were calling it a "convenience fee", when using my debit card. What INconvience is my using my debit card causing this business? NONE. Thats what. Because there are no fees from the credit card company to the business or the user when using a debit card.
And if you have fees, youre doing it wrong. Get a better credit card processing company and stop making yourself look so stupid out there.
And dont get me started that the fees are TAX DEDUCTIBLE.
And that they come out before you ever get your money, so its not like a FEE you have to pay at the end of the month like the light bill or the gas bill. You literally never feel it.
I want to support local and small, but im taking my business back if you charge fees when it is clearly illegal to do so, but want so badly to charge, and be like the other guys doing it, so you make a work around that is just as illegal.
When charging a convenience fee it may be placed on a debit card if the transaction is done over the phone or online.
I was standing right in the shop.
And now I wont be.

How ethical is it of a hair care company to list ingredients of their products that sound good, but side step the fact their main ingredients are synthetic?
Example, organic apple seed oil,(listed 20th on the product but mentioned in the advertisement) but a synthetic, non-biodegradable ingredient is listed first and never mentioned.
Asking for a friend.

At 11:25am on July 3, we drove by Big Foot Beach in Lake Geveva, WI and captured this video of “lake life” at its best.

We knew there’d be storms later, but even as a water safety educator I didn’t think twice about people enjoying a few sunny hours on their boats. We too let our kids go swimming just minutes before a nearby golf course sounded the lightening horn at 12:08pm.

We went inside and ate subs and Oreos and the lights flickered a few times. Before we knew it, people were texting us to see if we were ok. In a matter of literal minutes it went from sunny day to the most intense storm that anyone can remember, especially about 1/2 mile north of us.

A Google search reveals that the worst of the storm at 12:20pm.

As the founder of CAST Water Safety Foundation, I’m in a circle of water safety conscious families. We had at least 2 of our CAST Swim Families out on boats, 2 other families fishing, and 3 more swimming in LG. We all made it to safety, some more easily than others.

Meanwhile, 3 kids tragically died in an accident involving a capsized boat.

It is human nature to look for a loophole in stories like this. “What decision did they make that is different than what I would do?” In other words, “How do I convince my hurting heart that this couldn’t happen to us?”

The reality of this incident is that plenty of water wise and educated people were surprised by and caught up in this storm. I truly believe this is much more of a severe weather freak accident story than it is a water safety story.

We were out on that same water just minutes beforehand. Our kids, were still in wet bathing suits when we began to hear so many sirens. They had so many questions and we’ve answered them all with what little info we actually have. We talked about what we learned and how much we just can’t control.

My guess is that there just isn’t much of a loophole here. All we can do is give as much compassion as possible to everyone who loved these kids and to all of the first responders on scene.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out to us or others that they love in our community. And thank you to everyone who is helping in whatever way they know how. 07/06/2026

This, and my heart still hurts for the horrendous accident that happened July 3.
