The August simmer pot bag release is in honor one of the most important and influential women in my life. My Grandmom, Joanie. She has since passed and I can truly say it was the most profound loss I have ever experienced. And if I am honest with myself it wrecked me for many years.

I had the honor of being one of the people that helped care for her as her memory and abilities to do even simple tasks, slipped away. Sometimes she would remember who I was, others not. While I recognized she was slowly slipping away, I don’t think I allowed myself to grieve along with it. I made sure I was always present with her, whether she knew who I was or not. I adapted to her reality because the fear I saw in her eyes when I would say, “no Grandmom, it’s Heather” was something I wasn’t going to contribute to. Some days she wouldn’t even speak a word to me, but I always knew she was right there, behind her smile. In those moments I would play her favorite music, like this one, and allow her to just be.

There was one day… years after her passing, that I started to notice things… signs. Signs that she had probably been showing me all along, but I allowed the grief to cloud it. These signs reminded me to be present. Sure she isn’t physically here with me anymore, but she has and continues to show up. Marigolds were one of her favorite flowers and I cannot help but think of her every time I see them. They remind me of her vibrant smile. So as you simmer this very special blend, I hope you too, smile.

This special blend includes marigolds, oranges, star anise and cinnamon sticks. It offers a sweet, comforting smell that the end of summer brings, but also small notes that remind you that fall, the season of change, is soon coming and that change can also be beautiful.
