🌿 Fermented Herbs for Inflammation & Gum Health 🌿
This is one of my favorite natural wellness tools: fresh herbs fermented in a Himalayan salt brine.
I use a blend of mint, oregano, basil, thyme, rosemary, and sage to create a flavorful fermented herb mix packed with beneficial plant compounds and antioxidants.
These herbs are well known for their natural anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Oregano and rosemary are particularly rich in protective compounds, while sage and oregano have long been used to support oral health and help maintain healthy gum tissue.
Fermentation may enhance flavor, preserve nutrients, and introduce beneficial bacteria that can support a healthy gut microbiome. Since oral health and overall wellness are closely connected, I love incorporating fermented foods into a balanced lifestyle.
As a dental hygienist, I’m always looking for simple ways to support both oral and overall health naturally.
✨ Ways to use it:
• Add to salads
• Mix into dressings
• Top vegetables or meats
• Blend into dips
• Dilute a small amount into water as a flavorful herbal rinse
If you’re looking for natural ways to support your wellness routine, give this a try!

I tested a Miswak, a natural toothbrush made from the Salvadora persica tree, and honestly… I have mixed feelings. 🌿
✅ Natural and sustainable
✅ May help reduce plaque buildup
✅ No toothpaste required
❌ Strong woody/forest-like taste and smell
❌ Hard to reach the back teeth effectively
❌ Takes some preparation before use
While I love exploring natural oral health options, I still think modern toothbrushes do a better job cleaning all surfaces of the teeth. Have you ever tried a Miswak? Here’s the link if you want the one described in the video https://amzn.to/4uFY8Oe Let me know what you think! 👇

What you’re seeing in these photos is not “just tartar.”
The first image shows heavy calculus (tartar) buildup attached to the roots of the teeth below the gumline. The second image shows what that looks like clinically in the mouth.
➡️ Tartar is hardened bacterial plaque that cannot be removed by brushing alone.
➡️ As bacteria remain trapped beneath the gums, the body responds with chronic inflammation.
➡️ Over time, that inflammation begins destroying the bone that supports the teeth.
➡️ Once bone loss occurs, the condition is called periodontitis.
Warning Signs:
🩸 Bleeding gums
😷 Bad breath that won’t go away
🔴 Red, swollen, tender gums
🦷 Loose or shifting teeth
⬇️ Receding gums
⚠️ Bone loss visible on X-rays
Why It Matters
Periodontitis doesn’t just affect your mouth.
Research has linked chronic gum disease to:
❤️ Heart disease
🧠 Stroke
🩸 Diabetes complications
🫁 Respiratory infections
🤰 Pregnancy complications
The tartar shown in these images acts like a bacterial reservoir, continuously triggering inflammation throughout the body.
The Good News
Early treatment can stop the infection, reduce inflammation, and help preserve the bone supporting your teeth.
Always treat the root cause—not just the symptoms.
🦷 Your mouth may be telling a bigger story than you realize.
Emerging research suggests that chronic oral inflammation and periodontal disease may be associated with an increased risk of breast cancer. While scientists have not proven that gum disease causes breast cancer, studies continue to highlight the powerful connection between oral health and overall health.
Chronic infections in the mouth can contribute to systemic inflammation, allowing harmful bacteria and inflammatory compounds to circulate throughout the body.
That’s why taking care of your gums isn’t just about saving your teeth—it’s about protecting your overall well-being.
✅ Brush twice daily
✅ Floss every day
✅ Treat dental infections promptly
✅ Don’t ignore bleeding gums
✅ Schedule regular dental checkups
🔬 Research Spotlight:
A meta-analysis of 11 studies found that periodontal disease was associated with approximately a 22% increased risk of breast cancer.

GERD is flames 🔥 down your esophagus… but LPR is acid MIST silently attacking your throat & mouth! 😱
Both forms of reflux can quietly destroy your teeth through acid erosion — and most people have no idea it’s happening until the damage shows up.
How Reflux Harms Your Oral Health:
• Stomach acid (pH ~2) rises and eats away at tooth enamel
• GERD: Liquid acid surges into the lower esophagus & mouth
• LPR (Silent Reflux/Airway Reflux): Fine acid mist reaches higher — throat, voice box, and teeth
Signs & Symptoms You Might Notice in Your Mouth:
• Worn, thin, or translucent edges on front teeth
• Shiny, rounded, or yellowing teeth (especially back of upper teeth)
• Cupping or small pits on chewing surfaces of molars
• Tooth sensitivity to hot, cold, sweet, or acidic foods/drinks
• Sour taste, bad breath, or dry mouth
• Increased cavities once enamel is gone
Left untreated, this leads to more decay, sensitivity, and even tooth loss.
What you can do naturally:
• Address the root causes (diet, airway, gut health)
• Rinse mouth with water or pH-balancing rinse after reflux episodes
• Wait 30-60 minutes before brushing
• Support remineralization with nano-hydroxyapatite, probiotics, or mineral-rich oral care
• Get regular dental check-ups for early detection

🦷 STOP SCRUBBING YOUR TEETH! 🦷
One of the biggest mistakes I see is people brushing too hard with a manual toothbrush and damaging their gums without realizing it.
An electric toothbrush can help:
✨ Remove more plaque
✨ Be gentler on your gums
✨ Reduce overbrushing
✨ Improve your brushing habits
✨ Give you a cleaner feeling every day
Personally, I recommend BURST because it’s effective, gentle, and easy to use.

Your toothbrush is one of the few things you use every single day. Investing in a better one can make a huge difference for your smile.

🦷 Want one of the cheapest anti-aging secrets nobody talks about?
Flossing every day may do more than protect your teeth—it helps reduce inflammation throughout your body. Chronic inflammation has been linked to aging, heart disease, and other health issues.
Think about it: a few minutes of flossing each day could do more for your long-term health than some expensive anti-aging products.
✨ Healthy gums. Less inflammation. Better overall health.
Floss the teeth you want to keep… and your future self will thank you.

🌿 Toothache relief doesn’t always need a pharmacy run!
If you’re dealing with a toothache, try swishing with clove water — a simple, natural antiseptic that’s been used for generations. Clove contains eugenol, a powerful compound with natural numbing and antibacterial properties that can help calm pain and fight infection in the mouth.
In my latest video, I show you exactly how to make clove water at home and the best way to use it for fast, soothing relief.
This is my go-to natural trick when patients need something gentle between dental visits!

Not all dental exams are created equal. 👀
A thorough exam is more than just a quick look. Your dentist or hygienist should be checking each tooth surface carefully for areas that may feel soft or sticky—early signs that something might need attention.
Small problems are often easier (and less expensive) to address before they become big ones. 🦷✨
