Don't miss this opportunity to win tickets to see Santa! It always sells out, but is such a fun way to start the Christmas season!

Happy November, friends!

So much has changed over here at Great Lakes Birth! Michelle has expanded her services to include sleep consulting, and with that change came a need for her to rebrand her own line to encompass all of her services. She's still part of the GLB family, but you can find more information on what she's up to over at her new page: https://www.facebook.com/MIVillageFamilyCare.

She's also offering a cool promotion right now! Anyone who likes her new page will be entered into a drawing to win a train ride to see Santa at Peacock Road Family Farm on Friday, November 25. It's a SUPER fun experience for the family and it sells out every year. If you weren't able to get a ticket, this is your chance!

If you've worked with Michelle in the past and leave her a review on her new page, you will receive an additional entry!

Wondering how I handle overnight postpartum shifts and marathon births? Check out my :

Michelle here from Great Lakes Birth answering the question "How do you stay awake during a long birth or overnight postpartum shift?"

Sleep is my favorite thing. If you ask my kids what my superpower is, they say sleep. I can fall asleep any time, any place, in pretty much any condition. Fortunately, I've also been able to come up with some great tricks to staying awake using some of my other favorite things: water, food, and coffee!

My first line of defense in staying up for extended period is staying hydrated. If I've served you, you've probably noticed this at I always come with my 32 ounce insulated water bottle - with a straw! I LOVE drinking water, and staying hydrated helps keep my mind sharp at all hours of the night. Drinking out of a straw keeps me drinking more!

I also bring snacks along with me everywhere - , amiright? Nutritious snacks that require some effort to eat and lots of chewing - apples, nuts carrots - help keep me going.

Finally, when all else fails, I can always turn to my trusty BFF, coffee! During my time as a doula, I've discovered a new superpower: I can drink a 12 ounce cup of coffee in under 2 minutes as I walk from the patient nourishment room back to my client's room. ☕

Having preemie babies definitely brought Michelle and I closer together. It is one of the main reasons why we started this venture together. We wanted to ensure that every parent had the support they wanted during their childs birth.

Happy World Prematurity day. Today we celebrate.

It's today. Did you know that both your Great Lakes Birth doulas have given birth to preterm babies? This is me holding my daughter for the first time when she was one day old.

1 in 10 babies are born too early, and preterm labor and birth come with a whole lot of challenges. It's a club no one wants to be a part of, but if you find yourself there, we're here for you with a listening ear, a hug, and all the support you want. 💜

As Great Lakes Birth Doulas we support your bodily autonomy. We support providing you with facts from scientific studies, as well as information we get from our trusted peers. We support the whole family not just the birthing parent and baby.

The facts that we are seeing regarding the Covid-19 vaccines before and during pregnancy are consistent, repetitive, and constant. Birthing parents who are vaccinated and contract covid are carrying to full term and delivering their babies. Those who are not, dont.

This is information and facts that we as doulas are seeing first hand. 70%. That is not in any way a miscalculation or an inflation. That is fact.

We ask that you take this information and truly consider the cons of not choosing the vaccine. There are many and they typically do not result in a whole family.

We love you and we want you to have all of the correct and accurate information. Please reach out to us with any concerns.

Love,
Ginger and Michelle

In case you missed it (because I forgot to share 🤦‍♀️), I completed my postpartum doula certification with DONA International a couple of weeks ago! My email signature is now Michelle Haskell, CD/PCD(DONA), LCCE. But really all that means is that you're getting the best, most up-to-date evidence-based care I can give you as I continue to learn and grow!

Nothing makes you contort your face quite like a webinar on oral ties. 😛

I had the pleasure of attending a virtual baby naming ceremony for some clients last night. It was so lovely! I LOVE learning about and participating in different cultural practices surrounding birth! I'm so appreciative to have been included in this special moment!
