Spring Forward and Align Your Circadian Rhythm!

Did you know your body has an internal clock? It's referred to as your circadian rhythm, which is the pattern your body follows based on a 24-hour day.

On Sunday, March 8, 2026, clocks advance one hour for "Spring Forward," reducing the night’s length. This change disrupts the body’s circadian rhythm, impacting sleep, alertness, metabolism, and mood.

Here are 5 ways to minimize the adverse effects of time change:

1. Shift your sleep schedule gradually: Before the time change, adjust your bedtime and wake time by 10–15 minutes daily to help your body adapt smoothly.

2. Prioritize morning light exposure: Step outside or open your blinds soon after waking. Light helps reset your body's internal clock.

3. Try gentle yoga, breathwork, and meditation to regulate your nervous system: Restorative yoga can help after a shift, while meditation aids emotional and mental balance and counters restlessness from circadian changes.

4. Regulate mealtimes: Both light and mealtime affect circadian rhythm. Adjust your meals before spring-forward or set new consistent mealtimes to help your body adapt.
