Trying to keep some grass in the chicken yard.
Planted seed and covered with 1/2" hardware cloth. Used long metal staples to hold it down.
It seems to be working!

I had a great time talking with Albany County 3rd graders during the Albany County Cattlewomen's Ag Expo the last two days.
So many great questions, and love seeing the kids get some dirt on their hands!

I finally got around to harvesting the worm bed I had going indoor all winter.
It's a 40 gallon tank, was filled with shredded cardboard and fall leaves to the top, then moistened and mixed. I left it alone for six months, other than checking moisture and misting with water as needed.
To harvest I removed the top layer of bedding that wasn't composted by the worms (its in the blue tub). When I got to the castings I ran them through the 1/4" screen to sort worms from the castings (green piece sitting over the bucket. You can see some worms still on the screen). The castings collect in the bucket bellow.
It always amazes me what the worms are doing below the top layer of "mulch".
I got about 7-8 gallons of castings from this tank.
The worms and unfinished bedding go back into the tank with more fresh bedding to do it all over again!

Now that Spring(?) is making an appearance (snow in March, but nothing new for Wyoming) it will still be a little while before I can dig into the worm beds and see how they fared this mild winter.
I do want to let everyone know I also raise meal worms, if you are needing a treat for your chickens, reptiles, or other critters.ππ¦πΈπ¦π’
I'm considering trying my hand at raising super worms as well. I'm just curious what interest there might be for them?
Let me know if you might be interested though (chances are I'm going to give it a shot anyway!)π
