These are not flaws. They are normal signs of a life well lived. 🩶

I’m 46 years old, and I’ve spent the last 18 years caring for other people’s skin as an esthetician. I understand skin. I’ve invested in quality skincare, professional treatments and consistent home care, but my skin still has lines, texture, visible pores and signs of aging.

And that is completely normal.

I grew up in Florida, where childhood sunburns and years of sun exposure left their mark. I’ve even had basal cell carcinoma removed from my lower eyelid. The removal left a hole that required a skin graft to repair. That experience forever changed the way I look at sun protection, skin health and the importance of caring for the skin we’re given.

Years ago, I tried Botox and received IPL treatments. I’ve also used tretinoin and hydroquinone. I haven’t had Botox or laser treatments in years, I’ve never had filler, and today I’m choosing a more natural, whole-body approach for myself, supporting my skin through microneedling, healthy habits and skincare products I genuinely feel good about using, including Olive Tree People.

This is not a post against Botox, filler, lasers or anyone who chooses them. Every woman deserves the freedom to make the choices that help her feel confident. This is simply where I am in my own journey.

Our skin naturally changes with time. Collagen and elastin production gradually decline. Hormonal changes can affect hydration, firmness and healing. Repeated facial expressions create lines around our eyes, forehead and mouth. Sun exposure can contribute to uneven tone, changes in texture, collagen breakdown and—more seriously, skin cancer.

That is why caring for your skin is about so much more than trying to look younger.

It is about protecting its health. Supporting its barrier. Replenishing moisture. Providing antioxidants. Encouraging healthy renewal. Wearing sunscreen. Paying attention to new or changing spots, and seeing a dermatologist for regular skin checks, especially if you have a history of sun damage or skin cancer.

Even the best skincare cannot, and should not be expected to, stop every natural biological process.

Healthy skin can still have wrinkles.

Glowing skin can still have texture.

Beautiful skin can still have scars.

The lines around my eyes mean I’ve smiled. The lines on my forehead mean I’ve expressed myself. The graft beneath my eye is a reminder of what I’ve survived, and why I will always encourage others to protect their skin.

I refuse to measure the success of my skincare by how closely my face resembles a filter.

My goal is no longer to chase perfection. My goal is to age with healthy, nourished and beautifully cared-for skin, and to feel confident in the face that tells my story.

So protect your skin. Wear your sunscreen. Schedule your skin checks. Support your skin barrier. Nourish your body. Choose quality products and treatments that make you feel good. But please don’t spend your life believing that every line, scar or change needs to be frozen, filled or fixed.

Here’s a reminder: Aging is not a skincare failure.

It is a privilege, 🩷
