Once upon a brow…

So is it unfair to have a favorite student? Not when it's your own kid! Mason apprenticed under me prior to moving to the UAE (Dubai). He is now pursuing his Master's degree in art at NYU Abu Dhabi. I'm so proud.

I was going through old pictures to delete and came across these. I thought I'd share .... and brag on my boy.

He took to tattooing incredibly fast and was tattooing hyper realistic work in about 3 days of training. This was a bit discouraging to other students because he was just a natural. However, he has been trained in art by myself since he was 5. I used to sit him at the kitchen table and have him practice spheres. He used to do sumi painting with me. He started on canvas at 9, on my easel in our garage. He sold his first painting at 9.

Fast forward, he graduated UNLV with a bachelor's in Art and is working on his master's at NYU Abu Dhabi.

I incorporate a lot of the same things that I taught Mason into my permanent makeup curriculum. Many if not most permanent makeup students have no background in art. This makes it a little more challenging to design permanent makeup procedures. The design part is what most permanent makeup students struggle with. In my permanent makeup training programs I incorporate art exercises to help my students build their artist muscles. Some students may wonder what the heck does drawing spheres have to do with permanent makeup but trust me the art drills and art exercises I have my students do serve a very important purpose. I have to turn these students into artists. They have to learn how to draw. If you can't draw it, you can't tattoo it.

My clients don't want that dramatic brow that screams "I got a face tattoo!"

My style is anti-tattoo and it's all about conservative natural illusions. Most of my clients want subtle enhancements with realistic pleasing qualities on their face. Technically pmu is a tattoo but I strive to make it not look like one! I do not want anyone to know you have permanent cosmetics unless you tell them. It shouldn't be obvious.

This post is of a very subtle and conservative brow. It is natural looking and doesn't have that oversaturated tattoo look of typical powder brows. I love doing work like this. Love it!! No sharpie brows given on my table. No way!
