Just NO! Don’t do it. Hands OFF of your face!!!

Although it is tempting, picking at your skin will never be a good idea especially with bare hands. Did you know that a normal epidermal biome contains Staph, which can become extremely dangerous when given the opportunity to create an infection in the perfect environment of a recently popped pimple?? Leave it to the professionals!!!

Not only is picking an unsanitary practice, but it also leaves you with marks that often times result in scarring. And let me tell you, scarring is a lot more challenging to treat than the acne itself so let’s get this under control now!

If you have a blemish that is driving you crazy, here are some tips to assist the healing process and eliminate inflammation safely & effectively:

🧊 Ice the area after cleansing to reduce inflammation

🔘 Spot treat with a product containing high levels of BPO and sulfur. If it is deeply inflamed , a topical cortisone might be helpful

⚪️ Consider using a hydrocolloid patch to assist in healing and help reduce the urge to pick.

Remember to wash your pillowcases, towels and sheets often with a fragrance free detergent and don’t use dryer sheets. This is a tough habit to break but important in keeping the skin clear.

Also be sure to check in with your Aesthetician regularly to make adjustments to your regimen as needed.

Have you ever wondered why you see the L. before Mandelic or Ascorbic Acid on your skin care ingredient list?

The L. Is referring to the use of the chirally correct ingredient within these formulas. Chirally correct ingredients are more effective and less irritating.

The benefit of a chirally correct product is that the active ingredient will contain only the effective side of the molecule that is beneficial for skin beautification. Depending on the ingredient molecule used, one side will be more effective when used topically in skin care. The two sides (D and L) are identical, but often times only one side will actually be effective and absorbable. In the case of vitamin E, the effective side is D and in the case of Mandelic Acid, it is L.

In my development of Refine Professional Skin Care, I am using chirally correct formulas. This is why the line will be very active, effective and non irritating.

“Wearing a mask is making my skin break out! What can I do?!” 😷 This is a question that I’m asked daily, so this post is long overdo!

Let’s dive into what could be causing the breakouts for you. It could be the warm moisture from your breath creating a perfect environment for acne causing bacteria and fungi to thrive, or even simply there friction causing what’s called Acne Mechanica.

You can always reach out to me personally for individualized advice, but here are some general tips to avoid the breakouts and how you can treat them.

If you are using a cloth mask, please wash your mask with fragrance free detergent after every use and do not use fabric softener or dryer sheets, as these contain skin irritating pore cloggers.

Do not wear makeup under your mask. If you MUST, please be sure that it is acne safe. I can always help you review pore clogging ingredients to double check that it is safe for you to be using.

If your mask is creating a lot of friction around your ears, apply a small amount of Aquaphor or cornstarch to reduce the Acne Mechanica inducing friction.

Cleanse your skin once you are home and able to safely remove your mask. If you have active breakouts, you’ll want to follow my ice protocol for treating inflamed lesions followed by an acne spot treatment.
