Donte is a born and raised native Detroiter. As a child, Donte accompanied his mother to the salon where she loved to have her hair styled and found himself infatuated with hair. During his visits, he would ask his mother's stylist endless questions about styling techniques and hair care. Donte began working in various salons in the Metropolitan Detroit area at age 14 and enrolled at David Pressley Hair School in Royal, Oak, MI at age 19. He credits mentors David Squires of Day7 Salon and Kenia Burns of Salon Posh for inspiring him to open his own establishment. On November 4, 2012 at the age of 22, Donte took a Leap of faith and opened Foil Salon in Lathrup Village, MI. The name Foil is a metaphor for his specialty, which is color. Foil Salon started with a team of four, offering an array of services including natural hair care, extensions (full or partial), hair coloring, haircuts, braiding, razor cuts, highlights/lowlights, silk presses, relaxers, bonded weaves, custom wigs, and lace wigs. At the beginning of year 2014, Foil Salon moved to its current location in Southfield, MI to accommodate the growth of clientele and a growing staff which now stands at 10. Donte and the Foil Salon team believe in giving back to the community by way of participating in local charity events such as The American Cancer Society, Race for the Cure, and The Good Life Awards (which recognized Donte’s achievements with the 2013 Leap of Faith Award. Donte credits God’s grace and blessings for his success. He is exceedingly thankful to have realized his dreams and believes in leading by example. His team can attest to this, as he takes pride in encouraging staff and peers to believe in themselves, their abilities, talent, potential and endless possibilities. In his spare time, Donte loves to travel, spend time with family, and attend Triumph Church in Southfield, MI.
