The imagined embarrassment can be overwhelming to some.

Unexpected loss is devastating. My timeline is filled with heartfelt testimonials to yet another incredible, generous, talented soul that is gone too soon.

We often hear in times like this:
⠀
“You never know what someone is going through.”
⠀
This is true- we don’t know the details of anyone’s personal suffering.
⠀
But we do know that people experience pain.
⠀
In these moments where we are reminded that life is difficult, that it is our nature as *humans* to suffer quietly, and that it’s also our nature- for many- to keep moving and working through it all-
⠀
It would serve us to grow past asking people in depression and dark seasons to “speak up and ask for help.” As someone who’s struggled myself with hard thoughts in tough times-

That can be too hard- so very hard- and for many…too late.
⠀
I’d like to gently offer this alternative…
⠀
Let’s assume every day is a hard one for every one. When your path crosses with a friend-
⠀
Ask how they’re doing.
See them in their moment.
Support them in hardship.
Abstain from gossip and assumptions.
Treat them tenderly.
Show love in abundance.
⠀
Assume the best…stand by them in the worst.
⠀
Every one. Every day. All the time.
⠀
And of course…grace, grace, grace.
⠀
While we each can’t be solely responsible for the thoughts in the quietest moments of each individual…
⠀
We can be a consistent voice that serves as a pinpoint of light when it gets so very dark. We all experience the darkness, and we all are deserving of hope.
⠀
Loss of life is deeply sad, seeing it over and over in young people with purpose, rare gifts, families and so much to give is heartbreaking.
⠀
My sincerest sympathies to those impacted and it’s my personal hope that I can honor their lives in my actions towards others- every day.
