The growth is crazy.

This is I-35 at Parmer Lane in Austin looking southeast in 1966 (photo courtesy of TxDOT) and a recent view from Google Maps. There was no Parmer Lane here at that time. I-35 had been built around 1954, replacing US 81 that ran down Lamar Blvd., which is the road at the right. Lamar meets I-35 about a mile north of here at Howard Lane and was an awkward intersection back then, so this interchange was built to provide a cleaner direct connection from I-35 to Lamar, which had been redesignated as Business 81 (and subsequently redesignated as Loop 275). It was removed when Parmer Blvd. was extended across I-35 around 1988.

You can still see the artifacts from that interchange, including the excess triangular right-of-way alongside Palmer between I-35 and Lamar, and the arcing northbound frontage road north of Palmer.
