Y'all remember the "You can't pinch an inch on me" BS? and the Special K Challenge where you end up buying and eating so much of this bland, lifeless cereal that their stock went up. What the f**k were we thinking. Ugh. No more. And this is how Kellogg's got it's start. so cringing.

How do you treat people who are in big bodies? Is there room for you to fight against what our culture has taught us and become a little less fatphobic?
Posted • 💥
If you currently do not live in a fat body...Ask yourself, would you want to be treated the same as a fat bodied human is treated in our society today? 👇🏼
No? Ok cool now that we’ve confirmed once again that Fatphobia still exists and is indeed harmful in multitudes of ways... 👉🏼
Let’s also never forget that the systems we use in our society to determine one’s “health” are inherently broken, as well as Fatphobic, ableist, racist and rooted in discriminatory standards of health and beauty aka cis, white, male, thin, able bodied centered. 👉🏼
Did you know that the BMI scale was invented by a mathematician? Not a doctor or health professional of any kind. Or that it was also never meant to be used to measure the health of an individual! The numbers in the scale were created based off of cis thin white able bodied men, and some of the numbers were rounded up or down...simply because 25 is apparently easier to remember than 29.🙄 Yet it is still widely used as a tool to classify and demonize people’s bodies. 👉🏼
👇🏼
The truth⚠️
❕
You can Not determine someone’s health based on what they look like.✋🏼
❕
Fat shaming disguised as health concerns is still just fat shaming and it feeds into the continued oppression of fat folx.✋🏼
❕
Healthism is a real thing. A person’s “health” should never determine their worth as a human being. Someone’s health or perceived health is👉🏼
1. None of your business✅
2. None of your business✅
3. None of your business✅
✨Suggesting that only those who are society’s idea of “healthy” are worthy of acceptance, respect, and basic human rights is not only pure trash...It is exactly why racism, ableism, Fatphobia and all other forms of discrimination continue to be a thing. 👎🏼
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again...If your ‘Body Acceptance’ has a weight restriction, you’re doing it wrong.✋🏼
Let’s be a part of the solution not the problem.♥️

This hits home so much for me.
It wasn’t until an eating disorder came to my house that i realized what disordered eating i had developed following our culture’s deleterious ‘healthy=thinness’ mantra…which i now see as the biggest hoax that the majority of us have actively contributed to. And for that I’m sorry.
I used to avoid buying things like Nutella or cookies b/c i was afraid i’d eat the whole thing. The shift in mindset didn’t happen overnight but now, like in this post, I finally feel like ‘less IS more’. And it is refreshing.
I never understood the concept of "less is more"... If something was pleasing - I wanted MORE!!! Another unexpected gift of Intuitive Eating - I finally have a glimmer of experiencing the concept of "less is more". Turns out, you can only truly understand and experience that MORE of a thing is not necessarily a good thing, when you have total unconditional permission to have MORE and EXPERIENCE what MORE truly feels like. When MORE is always denied - it becomes exciting/attractive/seductive/everything-i've-ever-needed-and-wanted. But after some time allowing MORE, it turns out... nope. Frequently, LESS is MORE ❤️

This is exactly what we heard when we started advertising the Ditching Diet Culture book discussions. I'm not that skilled yet at explaining it all, but this thread boils it all down.
And most importantly, remember, you've spent decades submersed in diet culture...an environment that often gave you your friendship circle and shared experiences. We can't give that all up overnight, especially when most folks are not where you are in your uncovering of the lies that we've been told. Be patient, be loving, especially to yourself.

It’s incredible to discover all those parts of ourselves that were suppressed and hidden by diet culture/eating disorders. Diet culture silences our voices, our power, and our full selves. Discovering who we are outside of all that can be magical. ✨
