I love learning & teaching about ways to be well and stay well. Lets put your beautiful puzzle together!

After 28 years in conventional medicine, I found my passion as a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner & Functional Genomics DNA Practitioner.

Andrew Huberman is a Professor of Neurobiology at Stanford. He says most people are working against their own biology every day without knowing it — and the fixes are free. Here are 6 things he wants everyone to know:

→ Two forces control sleepiness: adenosine (builds up the longer you're awake) and the circadian temperature cycle (a 24-hour body temperature oscillation). How sleepy adenosine makes you feel depends on where you are in that temperature cycle — they work against each other.

→ Your temperature minimum — 2 hours before your natural wake time — is the master lever of your body clock. Light BEFORE it delays your clock. Light AFTER it advances it. Most people unknowingly do both and stay stable.

→ Nocturnal humans — same sleep hours, wrong timing — have measurably worse immune and metabolic function than those who sleep aligned with the light-dark cycle. Total hours matter. Timing matters just as much.

→ Sleep runs on 90-minute ultradian cycles. Waking at the end of 6 hours can feel better than waking at 7 hours mid-cycle. Grogginess is often not about duration — it's about where in the cycle the alarm fires.

→ REM sleep is the brain's emotional therapy. During REM, adrenaline is unavailable — so you re-experience difficult events without the fear response. This is why sleep softens hard experiences. Cutting the last 1-2 hours of sleep disproportionately removes REM.

→ A 20-minute NSDR (non-sleep deep rest) protocol resets dopamine in the brain to the same levels as a full night's sleep — shown in a Danish study. Works even if you can't nap. Improves sleep quality that same night.
