Another New Day Scar Work and Muscle Therapy
Work with clients to help release restrictions due to natural and surgical scars as well as potentia The client is 100% responsible for their own health.
Muscles have referred pain patterns which could be heat, cool, tingling, and pain. The cause of the issue is not always where one feels the pain. We will explore causes stemming from the physical, emotional, and the chemical causes; using tools like vacuum therapy, NMT, CranialSacral Therapy, muscle energy techniques, Heart Centered Therapy, EFT. My role is to help be a catalyst to positive change, to be an educator, and support without removing responsibility.

Carpal tunnel surgery (May 2026). 30 yr old client reported, he had tingling and challenging gripping in both hands but right has more severe symptoms. Post surgery had not improved his symptoms. His doctor explained that was due to scar tissue and sent him to therapy and recommended scar work. His therapist, suggested me for scar work. The wrist was loaded with thick dense tissue. I also observed his shoulders were extremely tight. Laying supine (on back), having him raise his arms over his head, his back arched to complete the move. Ideal function, one’s back should continue to lay flat when raising arms over head. Spent much of our time addressing the shoulder issues. He actually experienced referred sensation in the hand when first working the shoulder. Freed both shoulder and neck, including the 1st rib (this is a muscle thing, not a bone adjustment thing, very different than Chiropractor adjustment). He reported a new sensation of lightness and ease of motion. From my experience, tingling in the hand could come from many areas. The nerve serving the hand goes through the vertebrae, through neck muscles, under shoulder muscles, under forearm/elbow area muscles, and finally under the carpal ligament. A restriction in any of these areas can cause hand issues. Back to the actual scar. Assessed the scar and mobility of the carpal bones. Using a reorganizing tissue techniques, able to reduce wrist tension and tissue thickness. The wrist could use another session, there was still some congestion in the carpal area post session, but we will have to see. Need to give the body time to adjust and incorporate the work. Sometimes scar release keeps going without the practitioner. Like starting a ball rolling down a slope, the body will heal itself, if given the right material or taking away the obstructions…. in my humble opinion. I am NOT a doctor and do not diagnose or prescribe. Only stating my observations. So one might ask the reason for his symptoms, I honest don’t know. The body is so complex. The other thing to ponder, it just might have been multi-prong problem, requiring multi-prong solution. If one has 4 nails in the bottom of the foot and 2 are taken away, is the client’s pain reduced by 50%?
Sorry I have not posted as I had hoped but being semi-retired is like having a 2nd job. And when working on scars, I totally forget the sharing aspect. I focus on the complexity of the person before me. All that, I still love the impact Scarwork can have on a person with post surgical problematic scarring. The founder of one of the scar modalities I utilize has done a study on her scarwork and the impact of post surgical breast scar pain.

Earlier post was of Sharon Wheeler's Scarwork online class. In all fairness, I also want possible practitioners to know about the McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release program. There are several teachers now with their own method of approaching scars. Find the program or blend of programs that work best for you.

This is a good video to the why scars can cause local or systemic issues. I am seeing more and more attention on scars. They can be the cause for pain or lack of mobility. His solution is kinesio tape, but his directions to how to apply the tape might not work depending on location and direction, as well as the direction of pull on the scar, during natural movement. You might need to try different directions. See the video I posted Jan 1, 2026 for another approach to pain and taping using scars. If the tape is not a solution for you, and you want help with your scar, consider making an appt. with a trained Scarwork practitioner. I have several processes to reorganize the scar tissue with no pain. Many report that scarwork is actually very relaxing. The old cross friction approach to scar is painful and not always effective. If Lewiston, Maine is too far for you to travel, I will put a link in the comments to a website to find a practitioner near you.

Happy New Year... may you find peace in 2026.
Scars can be the iceberg of pain. I have witnessed scars in one area, causing pain, in what seems to be, unrelated areas. Scars from open heart surgery causing left shoulder pain or limit mobility. Small drain scar in the base of the neck, causing neck spasms when stressed and move a certain way. C-section scar causing back pain. Working abdominal scar, improving constipation symptoms. Some people are not bothered by scars but those who are, often could use help. When there is a cut or break, the body is repairing the damage as fast as it can and it not concerned about surrounding structures. When scars are formed, they can adhere to nerves, muscles, organs, etc. When this happens, it can cause dysfunction and or pain. Here is in interesting video on self work with scars. If this doesn't help, maybe the scar is deep and or complicated, seek help from a trained scarwork practitioner.

Scar work is the best part of my job. It is amazing to see and feel the changes it can provide for some people. If you have adhesions post accident or surgery, that are causing you pain or limited mobility, you might want to check out the work of a scar worker. Here is a link to find a scarwork trained therapist. The list/site is based in the UK but it also includes the US.

I love scarwork but sadly I have done a poor job of getting the word out about how important it is for those suffering from scar restrictions and discomfort post surgery. I am accepting new scar work clients.
Aside, I was recently asked if I knew anyone who does scarwork in another state. If Lewiston, ME is too far for your to come for scarwork, please explore this limited list of other areas to find a therapist. The group/page is in the UK but you can search the US as well.

I have been bad about taking before and after photos of clients requesting scarwork. This woman broke her ankle which then required surgery. No weight bearing and then a boot. She had not had a normal gate for months. She reported horrendous pain in her foot, which limited her ability to walk. And yes she has more scarwork to do but most of her pain really has been from facially bound up tissue from immobiliation. Her ankle, calf, and knee felt like a solid mass. She could use more Scarwork but my main focus has been to help her get mobility restored and reduce/eliminate discomfort. Hard to assess the restrictions caused by the scar when the soft tissue was so bound up.
I will be raising my prices on March 1st.
New prices:
$85 for hour
$ 110 for 90 mins
It is a flat rate for all services including scar work, cupping, lymph drainage, nerve work, DNM or deep tissue (rehab muscle work)
If you have any questions, please free to reach out.

I have had success with old scars. Old or new, scars can cause pain or limit mobility, if so, that can benefit from scar work.
Adding this amazing way to address scar tissue into your practice could be just the thing you need in 2025.
