In 1961 Marilyn Monroe went into a nail salon and received a $6 manicure and $9 pedicure leaving paying a total of $15. Arguably to most that seems reasonable and is a great price. In those times they were and in today’s money the manicure $6=$60-$67 in 2026 and the pedicure would be around $100 as well. This was for the basic services.

In 1975 a woman named Tippi Hedren taught 20 Vietnamese women in Sacramento, CA how to do manicures. Leading into the $25 nail era of terrible labor practices and conditions for the tech’s involved and ended in the owners of the salons able to cut corners in pay and hours earned. Which means your nail techs were severely underpaid during this time for supplies, hours, ergonomics and more.

In 1996 the entrepreneurial industry leaped forward and nail prices went stagnant for a while due to the cost of living and the things that happened. Leading into the 2000’s where people of all kinds starting creating their own nail brands and businesses.

Now with this information comes the question; should nails be so expensive these days? My answer is simply in these facts.
If $6 of 1960’s money is equal to $67 of 2026 dollars then for a basic manicure and pedicure in 2026 should equal= $160 (if my math is correct) now that is just a basic level of both. No extensions, no polish, no add ons. In 1975 a full set of acrylic nails cost $25 in 1991 they ranged $43 then back to $38 in 96 and around $42 in 2003. Inflation math then from now is 80-90% higher. Which means $42 in 2003 equals around $82 in 2026. This is for the basic acrylic full set.

If my math is correct a short simple solid color set should run around $80 in 2026. That seems about the average and we hear complaints daily, these days
you women don’t want just a solid color either you want a hand drawn French, airbrush designs, 3D affects, and much more. 

Respect the history and your tech and be thankful for the dip in the 1990’s. If the influx price of nails matched everything else they would be around $500 a set in 2026. I digress.

Client came in for just a quick hard gel nail repair between fill appointments.
This is all done with sculpting. I used en Vogue Nails | Professional Nail Products products for this build out.

She busted a nail moving. It was her idea that I take pictures and show you guys how I can repair a broken nail. The goal is to try to keep it looking as natural as possible.

Her other nails are much longer than this but to keep the integrity and health of the natural nail when it breaks that short, I will only sculpt out so far.

With quick repairs like this I don't have time for all the cuticle work but everything holds up just as well until her fill appointment.

Plus I don't want one finger looking too drastically different than the rest. I did get her all oiled back up before she left.

Hard gel art set. Client wanted tropical vaca nails so this is what I came up with for her.

For the accent nails I wanted a sunset look so I ombred 3 gel colors together and hand painted the art.

New extended set for this client. Gel extensions with forms, when done right can give the client a nice , natural feel and look.

I used en Vogue Nails | Professional Nail Products forms, Model Natural White to sculpt out the natural looking tips and Maxx Blush to overlay the whole nail.

I used Akzéntz® Official Luxio Blush for a nice sheer tint and 𝐉𝐎𝐇𝐄𝐍𝐒® Professional nail art Picasso paints for the art.
