Race #2 in the books Southern Lights Stroll. Still slower than I ever imagined I'd be, but making progress.

Long post alert 📢 I haven't ran a race since 2021 (last pic), and back then thought I was overweight and slow (ugh). Fast forward to today and so much has changed, that I don't even recognize myself sometimes (inside or out). The dissonance between how I think I look and sound and exist in the world, and what the pictures and video clips show, is at times so stark, that I just don't know what to say or think, except "I look like that? I sound like that? I said that?!" I truly understand now, how much it sucks to be captured in a photo or video, when you don't like what you see. But captured I was, yesterday, and I am making myself share the proof even though I don't like how I look. I have never raced (existed, actually) in a body this size or with so many ruptured discs (lol), but I did it, on a trail, in my goal of under 1 hour (I used to have 5k goals of 30 mins, sigh). I have decided to race as much as I can through this holiday season to keep active and not get lost in grief. I am looking forward to the next race (fast on pavement) and hope to actually run 2 of the 3 miles (...my how times have changed, but one must be realistic). I missed my biggest cheerleader yesterday, who genuinely loved my body through thick and thin, from my cute yoga teacher/personal trainer days, to my injured, slow, chubby days. I hope everyone gets to experience that at some time in their life, being loved no matter how your outside looks (and not only by another, but from themselves...working on the latter). I'm so grateful though, for the people who joined me (especially my sister and niece), and for the family who cheered us on. I look forward to running with them in the future. Who knows, maybe I might learn how to have conversation again, or run into a new and improved version of myself at one of those finish lines.

No yoga today! For over 6 years I have taught yoga at the RAC, but last week was my last regularly scheduled class. I am going to be away from Rome too often to stay on the schedule, but I hope to pop up now and then to flow with you all, so stay tuned. I want to shout out to the class and for the sweet goodbye card and gift, it means the world to me. I love you all and will miss each of you! Thank you for practicing with me!
