Are you loving this lived-in highlighted look on .doula ? Inspired by her daughter's golden brown hair, we use two shades of highlights to create a soft dimensional brunette
If you’re also dealing with gray hairs this won’t camouflage them on its own. Highlights blend gray effectively when they're placed where the grays are, and your grays are growing in at the root. If you want that lived in, grown out look we will add highlights to the ends and use a demi permanent color to match your natural. It creates translucent coverage and is easy to highlight through later on.

Every gray hair journey is different. Yours may look like this if:
• You're growing out your gray
• You have 75-100% gray
• Your old color was light brown or lighter
• You want to look blonde while your natural grows in
Maintenance for this look could be:
• Nothing, just grow it out from here
OR
• Toner retouches only, every 1-2 months until grown out
OR
• More highlights, the blonder the better
Which path you choose is up to you

Step one for this Gray transition was a color remover and toner. Color remover is helpful when we have dark color that might not be possible to lighten enough to tone gray. The downside is how much warmth it exposes when we use it (slide 3 is not for the faint of heart!)
In this case, we already had tons of warmth that would need to be neutralized anyways, and her salt and pepper pattern was very consistent in all areas. While we both had hoped for more blend that we achieved this round, she's got a better foundation for blending now because we lightened the ends overall.
Round 2 for this client will include refreshing the toner on the ends FIRST, then highlighting to blend the dimension, and toning the highlights to create a gray effect
My new clients keep telling me how rare it is to find a gray friendly hair salon.
Their old stylist said you shouldn't show your grays
"You’ll look older"
"It's unflattering"
"It’s too much trouble to grow out"
Thankfully, my clients didn’t listen to those stylists. They came and found me and now we’re creating a plan to work with their hair - either blending, transitioning, or maintaining their beautiful hai

My client had a goal to grow out her grays in 1 year for a big family event. We discussed that her cut at the end would be very short, and she was ok with that.
It was a challenge to blend because of her placement. She had fully gray panels in the front and scattered gray in the back with a dark natural color in between.

One of my favorite parts of being a colorist is creating brunettes that don't pull red. Jackie always used to struggle with red and orange tones in her hair, which happens to many natural brunettes when they start coloring. Even as we've gone lighter with her color over the years we've kept a beautiful golden brown tone that flatters her features.

Welcome to Shades and Shapes Hair Studio! I operate a little differently from a traditional hair salon, so let me show you what you can expect here
I work inside Salons by JC. If you're not familiar with the concept, picture an office building where every office is its own independent salon. This allows me to create a semi private environment with far less noise than an open concept hair salon.
I've optimized my services to allow you to work from "home" and maintain your hair on your schedule. Single booking, faster steam processing, and expert stain removal mean you can get back to your life with no downtime

Taking a beat to educate myself on a totally different method of gray blending. We're aligned on the 'Why,' can't wait to learn more about the 'How'

This is gray blending on day 1. Her goal is to create a salt and pepper effect that's similar to her natural but still stylish. We added highlights throughout her previously color treated hair and toned to create an ashy effect.
Next steps:
We need to see more of her natural color, so her next appointment will be in 6-8 weeks. We will assess her grow-in and decide if we need to introduce lowlights or just continue to highlight. We always refresh the toner to maintain the gray through the ends.

When you're here there's no wasted time. Processing hair color with steam gets you in and out of your gray coverage appointment faster. My typical gray coverage client sits for just 20 minutes
